I was motivated many years ago to start this collection by an article in Motor Sport.

The Rofgo collection was created by the wealthy German enthusiast and World Endurance Racing Champion Raold Goethe who was inspired by a childhood GT40 model to assemble 38 cars in the iconic Gulf Oil livery which are regularly raced in current and historic events. I was prompted to start collecting these cars by an article in Motorsport in 2012 but ignored the F1 cars and restricted it to the Sports/GT cars and the race transporter which he discovered in the States and had restored at a reported cost of £1million. Doug Nye has written a book about it and the website is worth a visit www.rofgo.com. My collection is being selectively sold off to fund new collections and some upgrades to the others. I hope to feature some of the significant cars in this thread which I have brought over from S143.

Porsche developed the 908/3 in 1970 with a 3 litre engine to be used on twisty circuits and it duly won the Targa Florio and the 1000kms at the Nurburgring. For 1971 new lightweight spyder versions were built including this one, chassis 012, driven by Siffert and Bell to retirement at the Ring. It later became part of the Rofgo Collection. I sold this car a year and a bit ago to LM24HRS who invited me to join S143 and I’m glad that I did.

Mirage M1 Le Mans 1967 David Piper and Richard Thompson. This is the car on the ramps of the transporter. It was built by Rodney Rawlings from a Record/MRF kit. The Mirage was a car conceived and developed by John Wyer and John Horsman of JW Automotive Engineering with the backing of Ford and Gulf Oil. This model is of the M1, chassis No. M10001, as raced in the 1967 Le Mans 24 Hours. It was powered by the classic Ford 305 cu in “small block” ohv pushrod motor. It retired after only five hours with a broken valve. The car was campaigned with great success through 1967 & 1968.

This book was invaluable whilst collecting the Rofgo models and I will happily pass it on to anyone interested for the basic postage cost.

Pity you let a few of these go Stewart. I came across this picture of the collection which was displayed at Retro Classics 2020 in Stuttgart. It would make a great basis for a diorama. I have most of the Le Mans cars, but I'm missing the McLaren and Mercedes:

The main interest was in replicating the real collection as nearly as possible. After that it was a bit “been there, done that”. I still have photos so I can post them here or add the collection to my website. I have three McLarens as shown below. I didn’t know that there was a Mercedes in the collection! Above is…. McLAREN F1 GTR SHORTAIL #34 1996 LEMANS 5th OVERALL DAVID BRABHAM, PIERRE-HENRI RAPHNAEL, LINDSAY OWEN-JONED HPI 8263 Above is… McLAREN F1 GTR LONGTAIL #40 (39) BMW 6L V12 1997 LE MANS DNS JOHN NIELSEN, THOMAS BSCHER, CHRIS GOODWIN MINICHAMPS 533 174339 I couldn’t find the #40 car at the time so bought the #39 car (Bellm, Gilbert-Scott, Sekiya) with a view to changing the number! Which didn’t happen. Above is…. McLAREN MP4-12C #69 McLAREN/RICARDO 3.9L V8 TURBO 2012 PAUL RICARD 3hr BLANCPAIN 36th RAOLD GOETHE, STUART HALL TSM SF043B

If -like me- you like the Gulf livery this is a drool-inducing collection. Excellent.

I have the Le Mans GTR F1's (in fact I have several), but I was referring specifically to the MP4-12C with believe you had Stewart: Here's the Mercedes. I don't think anyone has modelled it: It's an interesting collection and I wonder if anyone else will be tempted to replicate it in 1:43: www.rofgo.com/collection/mclaren-mp4-12c/
