Excellent Paul. I have all from XW to Sierra as I lost a bit of interest after that. I could make a case for the Johnson/Bowe EB - I well remember first laying eyes on DJ'd EB when the new V8 formula started.

Not a winner, but the Mustang GT as driven to 7th place in the 1985 Bathurst race by Dick Johnson. Model by Automodelli Studio - paint is very very thick for an expensive resin model - i paid a steep price but still got it for 30-40% less than list and i just like the look and colour of the car so i'm still happy enough.

Nice work Paul. BTW, Spark have released the 1989 B&H Sierra which I think is several steps above the Apex model that was based on an IXO rally car mould.

I hadn't noticed this thread before, bearing in mind I was at Bathurst in 2004 and 2007 that is very remiss of me. I do have some Bathurst cars but need more like that 1962 Falcon and the '63 Cortina. I did meet Dick Johnson, I had bought a 1/64 model of his green Falcon and he very kindly signed the box, lovely guy. Also met Bob Jane and Harry Firth, now both sadly deceased. I had a nice chat with Firth and bought a book or two from him which he signed for me. One was his small book on how to set up Cortinas, he told me that the guys racing them in historic events still referred to it and asked his advice. He also nailed my accent as being from South London as his wife was from there.

You are incredibly well travelled Paul - im very envious of all the fabulous events you have been to, cars you have seen, and drivers you have met Thanks Paul, I did used to get around a bit. I went to the 2004 race to celebrate (hmmm) turning 50 whilst there, had a great time. Then in 2007 I won a flight to Sydney with Qantas so off I went again. Sadly on the race day I was too ill to attend it having been very poorly during the night (I have diverticulitis), my Aussie host said that I was the greyest person he had ever seen who was still breathing. I did watch it live on their TV though. Annoying that I was ill, I had even got a private parking space courtesy of a nice lady who lived on the road to the circuit. We had had a chat on the Saturday and as I am English and she was Scottish she said to move my car and park it on her drive and that I could park it there again on race day which was good of her. If you can get there you should do so, it's a wonderful track and event. The museum is excellent, they have a replica of the '63 winning Cortina in there. I drove my rental cars around the track whilst keeping an eye out for the police! Drove through the pit lane and put my car on pole position, as you do. And took photos to prove it, everyone does it. Great fun. If I get around to taking photos of my Aussie racers may I put them on this thread?

Great fun. If I get around to taking photos of my Aussie racers may I put them on this thread? Finally I don't have to be envious of you Paul . I have met Dick Johnson a few times in my younger days, as I grew up in Queendland and used to go to as many races at Surfers Paradise raceway and Lakeside as I could. Obviously Trickie Dickie was the fan favourite and for once us Fordies could put the pesky Holden fans in their place. I still have a prised DJR jacket form the early 1980s (before merchandise was a big thing), although my bottle of Dick Johnson Port did get thrown out many years ago - the quality of the product inside the bottle wasn't as good as the quality of the driving! I have also seen Bob Jane and Harry Firth several times, although by then Harry was very much the enemy! Getting back to Paul's (reeft1) model - the Greens-Tuf Mustang is just about my favourite of Dick's racers and I am sweating on Spark or one of the local more mass-produced companies to make a decent one in 1:43 (it is available in 1:18). The car still appears in historic touring car racing over here and never ceases to bring a smile to my face. I loved the early days of Group A in Australia as we had Dick's Mustang and the two yellow Alfa GTV6s driven by Alan Jones (yes that one) and Colin Bond - wonderful days.
