The Jaguar Model Club pieces are wonderful. Given the super slow production numbers, I’m surprised any come up for auction. The Sebring car is exceptionally nice and I’m surprised Spark haven’t produced it. Thanks Ian! Spark has the molds given they did the Cunningham cars. This was acquired for new Spark money with the added bonus of having the driver signatures. Jaguar Model Club pieces do come up, especially as collectors get older and downsize or liquidate collections. You just have to be patient and know what to look for. You deserve a good sit down with a glass of something special after all of this hard work Jerry. Even for this non-Jaguarphile, it's easy to see these are very special models. There is too much hobby history that's being lost and should be preserved. Congratulations on getting these rare jewels. All are stunning and beautifully presented. Aussie Alfa - I recently acquired this Alfa Romeo Montreal from Ian (Jager) to replace a parts work version of the car that I never really cared for the color. A recent post of Montreals at a show got me thinking and Ian's model turned up on an eBay search. It was in black, which was a special order color for the Montreal. Ian asked me why I was interested in the Montreal and the answer is that one got away from me in the early 90's. I always regretted not having acquired that car, especially since they have appreciated several fold since then. Having a nice scale model of one will have to do! 1972 Alfa Romeo Montreal - MinichampsThe Alfa Romeo Montreal was introduced as a concept car in 1967 at Expo 67, held in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, from which it received its name. A 2+2 coupe sports car, the Montreal was produced from 1970-77. It was powered by a 2.6L DOHC, dry-sump lubricated V8 engine with SPICA fuel injection that produced around 200 bhp, coupled to a five-speed ZF gearbox and a limited-slip differential, which gave it a top-speed of 140 MPH (220 KPH). This engine was derived from the 2-litre V8 used in the 33 Stradale and in the Tipo 33 sports prototype racer. They were a well balanced, comfortable, excellent handling GT car, with a great sound from that small V8. 3,900 Montreals were produced, but ironically, none were sold new in North America, making them somewhat of a rarity in our part of the world. I have a couple of parts works versions of the Montreal. While they are not bad models (the orange one is an early PW version), they have some niggling issues which the Minichamps version does not seem to. They are also not in correct Alfa colors, although close. I'd really like a medium blue one like the one that got away from me, but I have not seen a 1/43 model in that color.

I have always liked the Montreal, might have an older model of one somewhere. Black is a good colour says he of the black Impala. Nice model and it's good to trade between people we know even if they're interweb friends as we all are.

Great buy! I had two PW versions (one much cruder than yours, the other overscale) and swapped them for an orange Minichamps, which is the colour on most of the 1:1 I've seen. Fantastic car, I recall seeing the odd one in traffic in the 1980s.

As with many Alfas, the Montreal was a wonderful but flawed car. I still find them fascinating and I love the design - a true masterpiece in my book. Luckily for me there are a handful that turn up at different motoring events around here so I get to see 1 or 2 a year! Nice to see you are helping Ian to fund his next purchases - if I didn't already have a silver Minichamps version I may have put in a call myself!

That looks very nice Jerry. Orange is the iconic colour for me when I think of the Montreal, but black really shows of the shape nicely and gives it a luxurious look. I'm surprised more buyers didn't chose this option.

Yes, this is a great network and its nice to sell and buy from friends. Great buy! Interesting that orange (I think it was a metallic orange) was the predominant color Tom, but maybe that was required in the Netherlands? Not being imported here, I have only seen three I think. I would imagine the engine is a bit problematic and parts for one here would be difficult to find and/or fantastically expensive. I'm glad I got to drive one. It was a much more comfortable car than the GTV with better pedal spacing for my wide feet. Someone taller and/or wider would likely have a difficult fit. As I said to Tom, orange is not what comes to mind for me, but agree on the black, which seems to be thumbs up from everyone. Black being a special order, I would wonder how much choice there was for a buyer when new? Because it was limited production, was it take what was available and if you did special order from a dealer, how long a wait? Thanks Ian, it was a great purchase!

What a nice writeup and scale presentation of the iconic Montreal! I spotted your M4...have had a few of those here at times. Montreal was always forbidden fruit since never officially imported. I'd imagine the metallic blue 1:1 was quite a looker. I think you well healed that wound with so many lovely machines from Coventry

What Could Have Been... Stirling Moss made an agreement with Enzo Ferrari in early 1962 to drive a Ferrari F1 car, provided Ferrari provided the car, the support and that the car was painted in Rob Walker Racing colors as Walker would be the entrant. The deal also included a new Ferrari 250 GTO, which would also be painted in Walker blue with white stripe. Ferrari was desperate for a driver of Moss' caliber, but typical of Ferrari, was slow on delivery. The Ferrari F1 car not received, Moss drove a Lotus 18/21 on that fateful day at Goodwood. One can only speculate what might have been had he been behind the wheel of a Ferrari that day.
This car is one of the missing links in my Ferrari f1 collection. It was issued in a parts work series several years ago, but for some reason they were very rare and ones that did come up for sale were too rich for my blood. Lately though, they have been showing up again. Either reissued or a found cache? Either way, they are again available at a reasonable price.
Ferrari 156 F1 - BRDC International Trophy, 1962 - Altaya? parts work Two weeks before Stirling Moss had his race career ending accident at Goodwood in 1962, Moss had entered into an agreement with Enzo Ferrari, where Ferrari had agreed to provide a F1 car a(along with a 250 GTO) for Moss to drive in the 1962 F1 season. It was an unusual deal, in that Ferrari would own and maintain the car, but instead of Ferrari red, the car would be painted in the Rob Walker colors of blue and white nose stripe. Such was Ferraris desire to have a competitive driver in one of his cars that season, he would agree to let a privateer campaign a factory car.
With Moss no longer able to race, as a tribute, Ferrari sent a 156 F1 (Chassis 0001) to be run in Stirlings honor by Innes Ireland at the non-championship International Trophy Race at Silverstone in May. Decked out in red with a UDT-Laystall (UDT) green stripe, Ferrari sent a transporter, a manager and six mechanics out of respect to Moss who he had hoped would take Ferrari to another F1 Championship. The UDT sponsored British Racing Partnership (BRP), was a team owned by Stirling Moss father Alfred and manager Ken Gregory, who also managed BRP.
Ireland finished 4th, a lap down in a race won by Graham Hill after an epic dual with Jim Clark. Ireland had agreed to provide Ferrari a detailed evaluation of the car. He was critical of its handling, except when it was driven in the wet. While he praised the 120 degree V6, it was underpowered compared to the Coventry Climax V8s of the competition. His critique may be why the car was never offered as more than a one-time deal by Ferrari, and the only time a works Ferrari was campaigned by a private team. BRP bought the Ferrari 260 GTO (Ch.3505) and raced it in UDT colors, including Le Mans in 1962.
Stirling Moss has been quoted as saying that had Ferrari delivered the 156 F1 to Goodwood as expected, he likely would not have had his career ending accident. He said to the effect, Ferraris chassis don’t break. Ireland along with teammate Masten Gregory struggled through the 1962 F1 season in the UDT Lotus 24. In many ways, the drive in the Ferrari was the highlight of the season. UDT sponsorship gone at the end of 1962 and with limited finances, BRP struggled on for two more seasons in non-championship events; Ireland taking the only win in BRPs own chassis at Snetterton.
