After the Photobucket fiasco and minus my pics I was determined to stay the course and I'm glad I did. Thanks and Full marks to Jeff and the Mod's who've helped in this transition to the new MS143 forum. It's great to see so many of our S143 posters touching base once more.

I'm ok leaving my watermarked PB pics behind and starting over fresh here..PB really stymied my enthusiasm for hosting pics with their corpirate greed. I'm back in the flickr fold.

On the subject of usernames, is it an appropriate time to move away from alias and get people to register with their actual names (Maybe first name and first letter of their surname?). We mostly all know each other by name anyway which is one of the things I've liked about S143, so maybe its time to take that a step further ? I'll warn against this for several reasons. It will discourage new users who are privacy conscious. Unless personal data is collected from each user it is unenforceable. People will just lie and use an alias anyway (I know I would). If personal information is collected from each user then those who collected it are responsible for securing it. Forever. Anyone who wants to take on that potential liability, raise your hand. Even if the risk of compromise is small and the risk of damage even smaller, the upside is non-existent unless the entity with the information intends to exploit it for profit. Without the data, the risk is non-existent.
To paraphrase Phil Zimmerman:
Privacy is the users ability to control what happens to personal information. in other words, it is the “right to be left alone”. Security is a necessary building block for privacy, but is not sufficient. Privacy needs organizational, legal, and social measures. This is simply a matter of good civic hygiene.

On the topic of redirection: Is it possible to associate keywords to the forum? If so associating the name of the old site might help. Another thing we can all do is place links to the new forum on our websites and blogs. This is a small community so links will bring the site to the top of search engines in a hurry. For those with a Google account, you can host all of your photos on Blogger for free (no watermarks). This is nice in and of itself, but it also means that every time a thread with your photos loads it is linking to Google (pause for effect). You don't even need to publicize your blog or accept comments. As an added bonus, if you bookmark your blog and use the link you so graciously placed there to access this forum...well, you do the math. I've added a link to the index on my Blogger page: My Diecast CollectionIt's at the bottom of the index at the right. Feel free to use it to direct you to the forum if you like. My blog is non-monetized and has no ads, so using the link will do nothing but raise the profile of Modelscale143 (no new Bentley for me).
