1970 World Cup Rally
16,000 miles from London to Mexico City via Europe, South and Central America. I once asked Graham Robson why the WCR is regarded higher than the London to Sydney Marathon – ‘The World Cup Rally made the London Sydney look like a Treasure Hunt’
96 entries only 23 reached the finish.
Coincidentally on 1/05/2022 there was a World Cup Rally 50th anniversary (+2) show at Gaydon. The show had been postponed twice from 2020!!
Anybody knowing anything about the World Cup Rally will know about Andrew Bradbury’s fantastic collection of WCR models. He has now completed a model of ALL 96 starters and they were on show for the first time. What a tour de force, a quite amazing achievement.
Really tricky trying to capture the whole collection, but a few photos of Andy’s collection here.

I first met Andy many years ago when he showed me these two dioramas of the crashed Hopkirk Triumph and the cameraman hanging out the side of the 1800.

The weather wasn’t brilliant but a few photos of the cars outside, including the recently discovered Hopkirk Triumph. The car is beyond repair so all the WCR rally parts will be removed and built into a replica.
