Nice addition, Tom! I always thought the Probe was nice but a bit bland! When studying car design I used the idea of a flexible front fender, seen on the Probe IV concept car, in a couple of my proposals, and later on, as a Ford designer, I worked under one if the designers of the Probe V concept car.

I'm with Julio here - I always thought the Probe was a little bit too Mazda and not enough Ford. The model looks good and I like the choice of red, it lifts the car somewhat in my eyes.

So Ixo finally has released the R25 in this colour. I had it already in burgundy, but sold that one for a good price when I heard they were planning to release this colour. I will buy this one too. The 25 was one of my favourite saloon cars in those days. I too prefer the unique lines of the original.

I think that it wasn't a bad looking car but have a feeling that calling it a Probe may have put some people off buying it. Not a great seller in the day but there are some survivors as with its successor the Cougar. Seeing the mention of the MX6 reminds me that a friend who owns an early MX5 parked it at the supermarket car park recently and when he came back to put some items in the boot a later MX5 had parked next to his car. He went off for more items and on his return an MX6 had parked next to his MX5. A very rare sight, I like them.

There were many Probes sold here, but I think it wasn't more successful here because of it being a two-door coupe at a time when four-door sedans increased in popularity with young families (ever try to put a baby seat in a two-door?), Ford's failure to rationalize its product line and American's reluctance to embrace the ideas of "world car" construction. They have gained some popularity with tuners of late, but many got crushed during the cash for clunkers campaign in 2008-2010. Nice looking model Tom!

Had one as a rental in late 1990...guess it was fine for the time? Perhaps a GT trim would have been more exciting? Your model does seem true to form. Going to dissent and show preference for the 2nd generation, at least for design. I think the second generation is a bit more generic '90s car Brooks, but not ugly. Yeah, Probe wasn't a good name in German (it means 'test') and in English it's not a great choice either. I like the MX6 too, nice car and very rare here. Back on track on Tom! I love everything about that, even the color suits it well even though I remember very few in silver. I am in lockstep with fav Celica gens too...I would only add the '94. Yes, it's rounded '90s style but it did it much better than most other cars of the era, including the second gen Probe that it most certainly competed with. Lovely Celica! I had a GT new in 1974 new, one I wish I had back. I don't know about Europe, but here they didn't have chrome wheels. The base ST had metallic dark gray wheels and the the dealers usually fit chrome trim rings. GT's had a four spoke mag looking wheel in the same color, also fit with rings. I also don't recall the front spoiler on stock cars. Looks good though and certainly better than our heavier front ends with federalized bumpers. Trivial, but something that just jumped out. Excellent add ! I need one in Aqua blue.

I knew the Probe link to the much better MX6 but not that it had the mighty FC headlight units too. Seen next to no Probe in these parts. Celica a smart looker in silver, me.. the 'mustang'celica is the variant I much prefer. Keep on adding JDM Tom!!

I think the mk.1 Celica was the most common car at the Japanese Car meet here last year, Brooks. And silver definitely isn’t a common colour but I didn’t have a choice here, it was a one-off from back in the day when Minichamps made huge production runs and sold every single one instantly. Volvo badly needed a smaller, more fuel-efficient car in the 1970s compared to their 244s and 245s. Turned out that the quickest and most affordable way to get one was to take a controlling interest in a manufacturer that already had such a car, but wasn’t solvent enough to develop it any further. At that time DAF was struggling to finish the design of their ‘77', their first hatchback and more up-to-date than the early 1970s 66. The 66 was really an evolution of the Michelotti-designed 44 from the 1960s and powered by Renault's venerable 1.1, coupled to the DAF trade mark CVT. However, Volvo’s need was more urgent so they simply Volvo-ised the existing DAF 66. Thicker, plastic-covered bumpers, a Volvo logo in the grill, more side impact reinforcements and Volvo’s ‘anti-submarining' seats with their high seatbacks with integrated headrests were the obvious modifications to turn it into the Volvo 66. It meant a new lease of life for the old DAF and impressive sales figures for what was essentially an old car. Lots of these survive and they can still be seen on the roads relatively frequently- there’s one on my way to work. The ‘Combi’ estate version is less common, as when it was current. Ixo's model is a reissue of an older casting, I already had the Whitebox version of the 66 estate but I traded it for this one.
