Thanks for the reply. Yeah I’ll stick to the GL version with lighter (beige) vinyl roof. Wouldn’t want to do the same combo as the original signal orange vanguards ghia version but as a GL, that would be quite silly lol. The overrides are fixable, but inevitably I’ll end up having to respray the bumper which I wouldn’t want to do as it would then be out of sink with the nordic blue L version I’ve done. Want to avoid respraying the bumper at all costs. Pretty sure the GLs have optional sunroofs so that isn’t a problem. The nordic blue L should look really nice side by side with the orange/beige combo GL.
On a slightly separate note, vanguards haven’t got the GL/ghia wheels spot in like they have the L version. The hubcaps will really need exaggerating to make them anything like the real thing. Should be easy with a bit of filler, sanding and colouring black.

I wouldn’t exactly call 1:43 centre cap resizing 'easy'...

It won’t be perfect, but better than what vanguards currently have. Hopefully a dab of filler then sanding delicately may do the trick. Anything’s got to be better than the current version! Interestingly, their mk3 cortina ghia wheels are spot-on with the centre hubcaps superbly detailed and correct size. Actually I’ll have to look and see if I have any spare of those, if so there may be a possibility I can take them off and put them on the mk4.

Right, bit of help needed please, 2nd mk4 cortina defo won’t be a GL or ghia as can’t fix the wheels... original vanguards wheels do not look good at all, so it’s going to be another L model.
Really would like it to have a vinyl roof as that’s what I’ve got my mind set on... does anyone know if any original L versions were available in the UK with a vinyl roof? If so, I’m probably going to respray model red, with the roof being coffee beige colour.
If I can’t do vinyl roof then it’ll probably be another 1.6L.

I can't find an L with a vinyl roof on google, but that doesn't say it wasn't an option.

Yeah I think they were optional anyway at the factory - at least that’s what I’m hoping! Will give it a go, venetian red with coffee-beige roof.

A friend of mine had a Taunus TC2 2.3 Ghia in those colours. Very classy, always loved that car.

So a quick update - I came across a spare set of vanguards cortina mk3 ghia wheels and with a bit of work on the back set, both front and back wheels now fit nicely on the mk4 cortina, hence it will be a GL. The actual transformation from the wheels alone is really noticeable, makes the model look much better. If I don’t manage to succeed with the vinyl roof then at worst case scenario it will be a single colour red 1.6GL but I’m confident I can pull off the vinyl roof with a lot of patience.
And I have also completed a second morris marina, in the wonderful 70s sandglow colour to accompany the blaze orange one I have. Exact same changes I made to the blaze orange version to make it look much more realistic have been applied to sandglow model, and I think spec wise it’s higher than blaze version.

Looking forward to the results. Vinyl roof is all masking, shouldn't be that hard compared to your other conversions.

So here is the mk4 nordic blue Cortina, 1.6L. Model was previously seen on the old S1/43 forum but has been re-done from scratch - primarily two main changes from that version; one is the side windows were actually too narrow hence have been made bigger height-wise, same methodology as used on the mk3 Escort. The second change is the front bumper was initially placed too low by vanguards which meant too much bodywork was showing in between the lights/grille and bumper hence I repositioned the bumper slightly higher. Now for the mk2 Granada 2.8S. Again those of you who followed my thread on the old S1/43 forum would have seen initial model - again I have redone this one from scratch as I wasn't happy with way the headlights were positioned. Basically the front valance trim on the vanguards version was a separate unit and where the top of the valance is supposed to be in line with just below front indicator lights - well it wasn't no matter how accurately I tried to reposition the front valance trim. Hence when I positioned the headlights they were slightly wonky and the only way to correct this was by starting again and filling the hole where the top of the front valance trim connects in line with main body just below indicator/headlights, once hole was filled in I managed to sand flush in a straight line. Now the headlights sit flush. vanguards ford granada mk2 5/5 by mg-ork, on Flickr vanguards ford granada mk2 4/5 by mg-ork, on Flickr vanguards ford granada mk2 3/5 by mg-ork, on Flickr vanguards ford granada mk2 2/5 by mg-ork, on Flickr vanguards ford granada mk2 1/5 by mg-ork, on Flickr

And here is the Princess, you could say it's an upgrade from the one seen on the old S1/43 forum. That was in sandglow yellow, an 1800L version. This one is two facelifts after, a November 1980 Princess 2 facelift 1700L model completed in snapdragon yellow. 4 main changes from initial respray job. The reason why I couldn't repeat a first series 1800L model was as I had to make the side windows bigger (identical to the escort mk3 and cortina mk4), I ended up losing the 3d horizontal detail on the C-pillar, which usually sits in line with the bottom of the side windows. The early base models had this detail colour coded, whereas the latter models have this detail as a chrome bar. Therefore it was easy enough for me to replace the lost colour coded 3D bar with chrome self adhesive strips, one for each side. Also, the rear lights from vanguards were way too narrow, height-wise. Hence I made a couple of custom plastic ones, after shaping accordingly, spraying plastic primer grey and colouring in accordingly using transparent paint, chromed surroundings courtesy of waterslide decals. The third main change from the model seen at S1/43 is a little bit more "meat" was added to back of model, below bumper. Vanguards had this much too narrow and this was corrected using filler and sanding/reshaping accordingly. I have coloured the bottom of the rear black as I've googled quite a few of these very late Princesses, and it's quite common for them to have black just below the rear bumper. Finally last but not least, the headlights sanded flat like on the real thing, I hadn't initially realised vanguards had these convex shaped. The coachlines are light brown metallic like on the real thing, but barely visible due to partially the colour of the main model and also because they are supposed to be really thin. Sometimes, even on the real thing, depending on the colour of the main model the coachlines do not stand out. vanguards 1981 austin princess 2 1700L, snapdragon yellow 4/5 by mg-ork, on Flickr vanguards 1980 austin princess 2 1700L, snapdragon yellow 5/5 by mg-ork, on Flickr vanguards 1980 austin princess 2 1700L, snapdragon yellow 3/5 by mg-ork, on Flickr vanguards 1980 austin princess 2 1700L, snapdragon yellow 2/5 by mg-ork, on Flickr vanguards 1980 austin princess 2 1700L, snapdragon yellow 1/5 by mg-ork, on Flickr

Thanks, next up will be pics of the blue Talbot, hopefully within a day or two. BTW anybody know what happened to speedcat? He did some really good work on the professionals diorama which was ongoing then seems to have disappeared.
