Thanks for sharing that JPS GTR, something I had never seen before!
it is too cool for school! It isn't what I usually collect but I couldn't pass it up. Who is the maker? Rarely see one on the roads, but I usually hear it BEFORE I see it Hard to believe it's a Nissan when so the rest of the range is so pedestrian with 3 cylinders, CVT etc. This car's days must be numbered?

Thanks Michael, quite happy with what I've managed to find in a short time span. Indeed you have Tom! Just love your variety from Japan. It takes a bit more hurdling and open wallets to collect many of these cars compared to seemingly easier to find marques from every other nation. Sort of surprised that not more high quality Japanese subjects were modelled years ago as I had the impression the Japanese were fascinated by miniatures of all sorts...sort of like the Germans/Swiss with the age-old train hobby. Perhaps I am wrong about this, just my hunch as viewed from these shores.

I find that if you're unwilling to pay over the odds it's still possible to find the models you want, but it takes more searches and a network you need to invest in. I'm very lucky to have someone among my acquaintances who collects only 1:43 Japanese cars, and has been doing so for more than 20 years. He has a worldwide network of sources and sometimes I get to pick from his cast-offs or duplicates or he shares when he can find some cheap stuff that he knows I'm interested in. He subsidises his collection by doing some trading on the side too, so I keep a small amount of models that I'm willing to trade with him if that means that I can get something that I want badly. I have a very long wish list of models that I want and i'm always on the lookout for him, I recently found him a few models through a Chinese connection.

The internet has really made networking a bit easier than the pre-2000-ish stone-age! Back when I was a fanatical car brochure collector I remember placing want ads in Hemmings Motor News for rare brochures. From there I made all sorts of connections, mostly good (and honest)...and a few that were not. I even remember a printed 'directory' of global brochure collectors with interest and addresses. That was great fun too, almost like and early version of a forum such as this. But was done with written letters and snail mail. Oh my how the world has changed since the 1990s!
The Japanese-specific model market and variety is probably far more varied than I realize. I say this since the 1:1 market is as well. Amazing how niche-specific most Japanese brands have been for the home market. And endless variety of vehicle types and marketing too with specialized dealers within a marque (Toyota for example). At one time I had no interest in such things, but enjoy learning a little bit here and there. I don't have aspirations of visiting that many far away lands, but Japan is high upon my list if I ever take the leap! The Netherlands is up there as well

Fazda Owners Club Meet Up by Michael, on Flickr The closest my collection gets to Japanese cars. I would love to find 1:43 models of true JDM Fords such as the Telstar, TX5 and various Lasers.

I recall my pre-ebay searches for Ebbro and Kyosho 1:43 die cast Japanese models was via small ad in 'Collectors Gazette' monthly newspaper. Canada was the source of a red Mk1 NSX. St Martins Models then stocked the MkII which I made sure I got owner Ralph to put aside for me. One other 'hot pursuit' was for a Kyoto Lexus LF-A in blue.which needed a Japan based contact to procure for me. Apparently the blue version had paint problems so didn't make it out of Japan.
The orange version was prolific on ebay.

The majority of those would make a great addition to my collection too, Paul!
