… ONLY ONE model of the Porsche 917, which one would you buy? If you can use an image of the model, better! … This is not a game! I’m thinking about adding a nice, inexpensive model of the 917 to my collection!

I'm a Yankee so there is really only one choice for me:
This one comes a close second:
As for the endurance versions I've always been fond of this one because it is so unusual:

That is a tough question Julio without setting some parameters pertaining to the different variations (917 PA, 917K, 917LH, 917/10, 917/20, 917/30) because I don't think you can say any one model is a definitive 917. That said, the favorite 917 model I have over all the variants isn't the most expensive, or the most iconic, just what appeals to me the most. I'd go for a Gulf 917K.

Thanks for your suggestions, Alex! I’m thinking more of something like your third photo. I guess an endurance type of 917! The 917/30 TC from 1974 European Interseries Championship by Marsh Models Answering your question and in order to get what I really want, I did some research and was amazed by the tremendous variety of 917s! What I want would be more like the car Pedro Rodríguez used to drive. A bit like this old Corgi that I have in my collection… …and as far from Can-Am style cars as possible! When I think of 917s I see flowing shapes! Thanks, Tom! Something between what I’ve just described above and a 917K (now I know that the K stands for “kurz”) might be what I’m looking for! ………… I really don’t care if the car won a race, who drove it, or anything like that, it has to have a beautiful shape. Beautiful colours and a cool livery would be nice too!

That sounds pretty boring Julio 😉. What you need is something that will stand out in your collection - an outrageous design with an equally outrageous livery. I therefore present the ‘Pink Pig’ for your consideration…

As everyone has said, there are almost countless variations of the 917. It would be very hard to narrow it down to only one as we are talking about some very different variations. You could go with the classic Gulf 917K Or an early variation Or the 917L You may be interested in the Zitro 917 Julio as it has some South American ties. I don't have the model but you can read about it here.... supercarnostalgia.com/blog/porsche-917-chassis-025

The Hippie car would be my choice closely followed by all the others that were found at LM except the Pink Pig which like you i find not to my taste

You could go with the classic Gulf 917K To me, the quintessential 917 is a short tail Gulf version. I like lots of the other version, but if you had to narrow it down to just one, something similar to the above would be the one. Just don't get the Brumm version!

This the 1971 Daytona 24 hrs winning Gulf Porsche 917 by Make Up, I have the 1970 Daytona 24 hrs winning version also by Make Up. Not for the faint of heart price wise, but if you could only have 1, then I cannot think of a better piece. Attachments:

I wonder why would I be interested in the South American ties of the Zitro 917? The Hippie car would be my choice closely followed by all the others that were found at LM except the Pink Pig which like you i find not to my taste Oh boy! I’d love one of those but, I suppose those aren’t affordable, are they? You could go with the classic Gulf 917K To me, the quintessential 917 is a short tail Gulf version. I like lots of the other version, but if you had to narrow it down to just one, something similar to the above would be the one. Just don't get the Brumm version! OK…no Brumm then! This the 1971 Daytona 24 hrs winning Gulf Porsche 917 by Make Up, I have the 1970 Daytona 24 hrs winning version also by Make Up. Not for the faint of heart price wise, but if you could only have 1, then I cannot think of a better piece. That definitely looks gorgeous but, I’d rather spend that much money in one of my main themes. I’m thinking of buying a 917 from Ixo, a recommended PW or maybe a low priced Spark…

I was about to buy a 917 a few minutes ago, the 1971 917K Martini team by Spark at CK…but, in spite of their great sale prices, $49 Euros for shipping seemed ridiculous!
