I'm going to start out on the forum with pictures of the 1/43 scale Indy cars that I've collected over the years. Some were purchased finished, some were built from kits and some are mods.

1955 - Jimmy Daywalt - Kurtis-Kraft Offy Sumar Special - 9th - Wyn Edwards - In the race this car ran without fenders due to the aerodynamic instability they caused, but the streamlined car caused a sensation when it appeared at the speedway. In February 1959 Marshall Teague was killed in the streamliner while attempting to set a world closed-course record.
The Roadsters
The first roadster appeared in 1952 but the first win by a roadster came in 1953. The term "roadster" as it applies to Indianapolis cars refers to front -engine cars in which the engine and drive shaft were offset to provide better weight distribution and to allow the driver to sit lower in the cars. The name is purported to have come from a competitor seeing the first roadster covered by a tarp and asking "What's that?". "Oh, that's just our roadster (hot rod)." was the reply, and the name stuck.
