Great build Andy! It reminds me of a Dinky I had in my youth, so a bit of nostalgia on an interesting subject. Given the numbers made, I wonder how many were pressed into civilian use after the war? Maybe even some hauling race cars? ๐

Very impressive-looking beast, and being 1:35 it must be harder to detail. Great job Andy! Thanks Tom It's a nice scale to model in certainly for the military vehicles. Luckily (for me) they tend not to be very colourful so there is a lack of detail painting required!
Lovely QL, so easy to forget that the Poles fought bravely and contributed a lot to the Allies victory in WW2. The Falaise pocket was horrendous.
Thanks Paul
The Poles gave a lot from the very beginning to the very end and then unfortunately Churchill discarded them on the alter of trying not to upset Stalin. Should have given that utter monster the middle finger.
Falaise was terrible for both sides. Massive amount of well equiped German soldiers trapped because their utter monster of a leader ordered them to stand, all trying to escape from an enclosing pincer (against said orders). Wounded beasts are the most dangerous for a reason. They are desperate Meow, that is spectacular. I thank thee Andy, you are a busy man at the modeller's desk! I don't keep up with this thread to my loss. You are darn good at this and I'd bet it gives you great appreciation and understanding for the factory made models? It looks that way. An hour or so here and there. all about planning to make the most of said time Thank you BB. I am reasonable to good modeller i think comparing myself to others i know and yes to a degree it does particularly how to get things together without upsetting the already painted finish

It does have that lookk of the Dinky military models of yesteryear Some i suspect though many i also suspect were destroyed but there is a very good chance one or two towed a race car in thir time
Thanks Paul

Westland Helicopters had a long standing licence agreement with Sikorsky which allowed it to build their helicopters and when the SH-3 Sea King first flew in 1959 that agreement was extended to include it. The Royal Navy placed an order for 60 SH-3D equivalents with Westland and in 1966 Sikorsky supplied the prototype and three pre-production aircraft for use as trials aircraft and also to for pattern building. Whilst the prototype was essentially an American specification aircraft the three pre-production aircraft were rebuilt to the RN requirements which meant extensive changes and whilst the Sikorsky and Westland aircraft look the same, under the skin they are very different. First change was the engines from General Electric T58s to Rolls Royce Gnomes followed by the entire flight control system being replaced and then the all the modifications to enable it to perform the Royal Navy's desired anti submarine role. The first Westland built helicopter flew in May 1969 and service deliveries began in the August of that year initially as HAS1 anti submarine aircraft but also followed by a smaller number of HAS2s which could perform anti ship roles. Further versions followed, the search and rescue HAR3, the troop carrying HC4, the airborne early warning AEW2 and then further versions based on these core types meant Westland would go onto to build 357 before production stopped in 1995 and they would also be exported to Australia, Germany, Norway, Belgium, Qatar, Sierra Leone, Egypt, Pakistan and finally most recently Ukraine. The Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force would finally withdraw their last examples in 2018 but many remain in service across the globe including in civilian service to this day.
Airfix released this kit in late 2023 without any prior announcement as a completely new tooling so it was a massive surprise and went down very well. Whilst not normally a helicopter builder the Sea King tempted me and i'm glad it did because this is one superb kit and is right p there with the best i have built

I had the Matchbox Sea King as a kid- IIRC it looked significantly less attractive than this one. Excellent stuff!

Anything Fleet Air Arm gets my attention. Never realised the Sea King first flight was as late as 1959...๐ณ

Superb build as usual, not envious at all of your skill set! I used to live not far from RAF Manston and was used to seeing the yellow HAR3 search and rescue Sea Kings flying about. When on trips to Margate and Herne Bay as a young lad I used to like seeing the yellow helicopters flying low and slow with the crew waving to the holidaymakers on the beach, that would have been in the days of the Westland Whirlwind and Wessex.

Fabulous build Andy! Like Paul, these helicopters hold memories for me from when my Dad was in the US Coast Guard (reserves) and they used a Sea King variant for search and rescue. Used to see them at the base when we would pick him up from training. I don't think he ever appreciated I was more taken with them than his cutter. ๐ I remember their distinctive sound. Thanks for triggering some great memories!
