Quick update Bottom three rows. Not a very good photo. Lightning is poor, didn’t realise my iPad doesn’t have a flash feature.

Betty Haig and Yvonne SimonStumbled upon Betty Haig whilst researching Flick Haig (thanks Ian). Then found that she had partnered Yvonne Simon to a creditable 15th place in the 1951 Le Mans in a Ferrari 166 MM entered by Luigi Chinetti. Yvonne is the petite one whilst Betty looks every inch the grand niece of Field Marshall Douglas Haig! en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yvonne_Simon en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betty_Haig

Thanks again Ian for spending my money, just bought one on eBay for £35. A worthy addition. As usual whilst researching that one I came across another interesting driver….. Lilian Bryner en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lilian_BrynerThe 2004 edition of the Spa 24 Hours saw history made as Lilian Bryner became not only the first woman to win the Belgian endurance classic outright, but also the first to win any of the major 24-hour sportscar races

Marie-Claude Beaumont Beaumont’s story is inextricably linked to a well-known figure of French motorsports, a certain Henri Greder who raced Corvettes under his own name from 1968 to 1975. Both Beaumont and Greder were initially successful rally drivers who succumbed to the temptation of racing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Greder chose Beaumont to be his teammate for the first time he entered the legendary race in 1971 and she accompanied him for the next three years. Together, they achieved Beaumont’s best result in the 24 Hours: 12th overall in 1973 and 1st in class. In 1974 the pair finished 18th and again 1st in class. In 1975, her penultimate Le Mans, Marie-Claude Beaumont moved up to the prototype class, taking the wheel of the Renault-Alpine A441. Her teammate was Italian driver Lella Lombardi who became the first woman to score points in Formula One that same year. The following year saw Beaumont’s last race at Le Mans. She finished 19th in a Porsche 934 with teammates Bob Wollek and Didier Pironi Just arrived today An excellent inexpensive Altaya (Ixo?) model from a PW series I presume. Marie-Claude did indeed have a previous long and successful Rally career which could be covered in another post and might warrant another model. I would also snap up the model that Ian posted of her shared drive with Lella Lombardi.

This is the Status Quo Any suggestions are welcomed. As Jager says I may need more cabinet space. Need to sell more Le Mans cars.

Marianne HoepfnerI’m thinking of getting this one but can find no evidence of her doing this rally nor any results for it at all! Any ideas? I’m also looking at others 1984 Dakar DNF Monte Carlo 1982. She co drove for her husband Jean Louis Trintignant. She might have driven some of it. Le Mans 1977. Tempted by this one since she shared with Christine Dacremont and so “two for the price of one” (no box though) Any votes or other suggestions are welcomed

It finally got here. Worth the wait for an excellent Sabine Schmidt Beemer but again ripped off by eBay. How can they charge vat on Oz postage? Like others I’m totally sceptical as to whether HMRC sees a penny of it.

Collection updated with the addition of Vanina Ickx and Lilian Bryner. I wanted to add the Claudia Hurtgen BMW ( Jager again!) but slight problem in that the car came in the wrong box! eBay negotiations initiated.

Liz Halliday Just bought this one on eBay She had quite a good full season which could have been better without the retirements. A worthy addition. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liz_Halliday-SharpThis is one of the few American women drivers for whom I have been able to find models. No Janet Guthrie!? Suggestions welcomed, or for any other countrywomen (Australian?)
