It looks like you have done very nice job with it Stewart. In the days before resin and everything being made in China, Jolly Models were some of the best out there.

A new addition. I was really keen to compare Spark’s latest (purchased quite cheaply) with the K&R 1952 Connaught A type already in the collection with a view to selling one of them on. The images below show the two together. The Spark model is slightly bigger, especially re wheel size and is better detailed. It also has a filler cap (oil?) behind the driver. I’ve seen photos of both arrangements for the A type. The good news is I can keep both models since Moss also raced a Connaught in 1953 in the Ulster Trophy at Dundrod bearing the #32.

Both are very good models.

Both have appeal to me, the Spark being the more accurate, but love the heft and feel of an old school white metal model like the K&R. I'm not certain if they ran with the airbox in 1953. At least my model by Spark from the German GP that year didn't have one.

I think you’re right Jerry, the image below is from the Dutch GP very shortly after the Dundrod race and no airbox, probably because the Amal carbs had been replaced by fuel injection. I’ll have to think about taking the airbox off one of them!

An opportunity here to rectify a mistake and pay tribute to the late Tony Brooks who was highly rated by Stirling Moss himself who shared this car famously to win the 1957 British GP at Aintree. I bought this SMTS model initially to represent Stuart Lewis Evans as the Welsh driver in my National Heroes collection. Of course he wasn’t actually Welsh at all, despite the name. So I looked to put the car into the Moss collection as the Aintree winner but realised that the #20 was on the wrong side of the car. Since the model had been lacquered after decalling this will be a problem, wish me luck!

I hope it works out for you Stewart that you are able to modify it without having to respray it. Speaking of Moss and Brooks, I am assuming you have the New Spark BRM 25 on order? I have three (Moss, Brooks, Hawthorn) on the way and will be the subjects of two dioramas, one featuring Moss F1 cars.

Thanks for the good wishes Jerry, so far a qualified success which I will post when I get the decals. Regards the Moss BRM I’ve actually got this rather nice Replicars model that I bought on eBay 20 years ago. The Spark models look good as well. Look forward to the dioramas. Mike Hawthorn would make an ideal theme for a collection given the wide range of cars that he drove. Or what about “Best of British” featuring a single car for every significant British driver from all of the disciplines?

I would prefer the Replicars over the Spark to. Do you mind if I use your photos for the Hobby DB section on Replicars? I am curating that section.
Plenty of possibilities as you mention, although I am not as big a fan of Hawthorn as other drivers of that era. I am going to do the 1957 British GP with the Hathorn and Brooks BRM's. I am going to put notable F1 cars from Moss' career together similar to what I did with some of his GT cars.
Will be anxious to see the finished Vanwall!

I thought a bit about this Mk VII before adding it to the collection. The 1952 Silverstone winning car #30 was already in the cabinet so I was wary of duplication, but decided that if it was going to be the most complete collection possible, I needed the 1953 #40 winner as well. In fact I may need to get another one and decal it as the 1954 car!

Great add! Yes, you should make the 1954 car! Stirling had high praise for the old crocks in the way the handled and their performance. I enjoy watching the videos of the pair actively vintage racing in the UK, one belonging to Rowan Atkinson. It brings a smile think of Mr. Bean sawing away behind the wheel.

Since the lacquer was preventing the “sellotape rip” removal of the offending decal I resolved to remove the lacquer itself. I used judicious application of 3M Finesse paste to that end. It worked pretty well, the slight problem was that a little of the BRG lifted as well which needed touching in. Not totally happy with the result and will look to improve it when my nerves have recovered. I took the opportunity to touch up the exhaust pipes as well and slotted it into the cabinet.
