I will never forget one summer I was in Myrtle Beach for about 10 days, it was right when he hit big with his glitzy MTV song. I would bet that I heard that song every hour on the hour the entire time. I was not used to "Hit Radio" as we had 2 very progressive AOR stations in town. He almost ruined my vacation Damn, that's too bad Jeff, but funny nonetheless. I'd guess Mr. Palmer would even laugh at that story too if he were alive. Many times popularity is on a reverse-sliding scale of quality and it seems a good example. Apart from that song and others from that same period, I still stand in admiration of the clip I posted from 1975;)

Heard this 1,000 times, but to actually SEE it, entirely different level. The bass work is mesmerizing!

Oh Yes, thanks for making my morning Brooks. Along with The Small Faces and The Kinks, The Who make up my (un)holy trinity . I never saw them at their peak, but was lucky enough to see them when the played at the 2009 Australian Grand Prix. By this time Zak Starkey was on drums. It was still brillianr.

This is not a music video per se, but a guitar instructional. I love watching good quality videos of instruments 'isolated' from the rest. Have always loved this melancholy / dramatic song...and admire even more watching the mesmerizing guitar parts shown in perfect detail. Anyone else get a rush from this?

What real Rock stars look like I think the IofW sank a few inches lower into the sea after that show! That is a display of controlled aggression like no other...once in a lifetime magical pairing between those 4 men.

The old saying about them is true, the have a Lead vocalist Lead Guitarist Lead Bassist And a Lead Drummer. Nobody brought more energy to the stage. Sticking with The Who, here is an Isolated Bass Video to one of my favorite sons.

As we have lost another music icon, Dicky Betts passed this week. I saw the Allman brothers many time with a number of different lieups. The original was the best but sadly I was not old enough to see the founding members at full strength. Duane Allman and Barry Oakly were gone at a very young age. Sad that every member of this super group have passed on except Jaimoe.
Here is one of Dicky's masterpieces.

More instrument isolation/instruction... Not particularly complex for a skilled player, but have long admired the ominous interplay of bass and echoed guitar on this classic from 1980.
