In 2010 after much thought, the Escort 1300E was given AVO Owners Club full member status in recognition of the models part in the history of the AVO plant. While it may not have been built on the AVO merry-go-round, the first 5000 cars were assembled at the site and were instrumental in keeping the AVO plant financially viable.

Great models, the 1300E was pretty popular in that purple, these days you never see them although I guess that there are a few about. I can remember a friend buying a white bubble arched RS2000 Mk1 back in about 1975/6, that would be a few quid these days. The guy who services my cars has an Escort Cosworth plus a couple of the newer sporty Focuses. He's recently acquired an RS1600i Turbo which just needs new paint to be very nice indeed. I still regret not buying a Sierra Cosworth 3-door in Moonstone (the best colour) for 6k about ten years ago, that would have a nice little earner!

Basically keeping or buying an AVO or RS 5 or more years ago would have given you an extremely nice return on your investment. If like me you have lived on a diet of fast Fords and Subarus for the past 15 years, you could have retired and lived the life of Hugh Heffner if you had kept and not sold them…
