Towards the back end of last year I decided to start a little project around upgrading a lot of the old Bburago toys that I had from childhood, to try and turn them into display worthy models that could sit alongside the rest of my collection.
I'll put them here as they are completed, with as many pictures as I took during the process and with some display pictures at the end.
The first two are both modifications on the old Warsteiner M3 GTR as below (although mine were older and had the older style toy wheels):
I originally just had the one Bburago M3 but bought another to get better windows as I had messed around with my old one, with the results below:
This was okay but not exactly great and wouldn't look right on display. I decided to keep the second model and create two racing 3 series from them.
The first was the 1994 Fina/Bastos 318 driven by Ravaglia, Tassin & Burgstaller. I decided not to try and file down the arches on this one and instead, just made a semi-fantasy M3 GTR version of the car. Below are some pictures from the build:
The second was the 1996 Eifelblitz M3 raced by Sabine Schmitz (as Reck), Scheid & Widmann. I tried to get this one as close as possible by filing off the spoiler and toning down the wide arches. Pictures from the build are below:
Unfortunately I was not able to make the rollcage fit due to the thickness of the plastic windows on the old Bburago models - probably should have tested before making it but you live and learn.
Some pictures of the real cars:
Lastly, some shots I took this morning of the two finished models. Some of the details were pretty fiddly, such as the connecting pieces on the splitter of the 1994 Spa car but it was pretty satisfying to get them both done and ready for when my new display cabinets arrive.
Overall, I'm very happy with how they came out, considering where they started. I've got a fair few more in the works, so I will add them as they are finalised.
