1980s Rally - Group B - Ford RS200
For me the best-looking Group B car. Right from the start it was made to be a road car and a rally car. Did you know that the windscreen, the A pillars, the side windows and the cut down doors all came from a Sierra? Like the 6R4, the RS200 was late to the Group B party, joining in 1986. But in that year, it won four National Championships. After the programme was cancelled many RS200s found there way into Rallycross and Ford sold all the rest as road cars.

One of Graham Robson’s last books RS200 Fords Group B rally Legend will give you all the background. Again, a selection of models to look over.
RS200 a
1985 Lindisfarne Rally 1st overall Malcolm Wilson & Nigel Harris
Starter resin kit – the debut rally for the RS200
RS200 b
1986 National Breakdown Rally 5th overall Mark Lovell & Pete Davis
CD Models 010 one of my own limited edition (of 25) models. I wondered why nobody had done this model, that was until I started and realised how different it was to the other RS200 models. This rally was held in full snow conditions. It was chaos at the Flamingo Park service halt, as more snow fell part way through the event. The car was on narrow snow tyres, which were not originally available in model form. Conversion based on an IXO diecast.
RS200 c
1986 Skip Brown retired Mark Lovell & Pete Davis
CD Models 015 one of my own limited edition (of 10) models. Decals from Carlo in Italy. Conversion based on a Partwork diecast, because lots of modifications had to be made to the front and also changing the wipers and dashboard from LHD to RHD. This was basically one of six road car prototypes.
RS200 d
1986 Swedish Rally 3rd overall Kalle Grundel & Benny Melander
Minichamps diecast
RS200 e
1986 Portugal Rally withdrawn Joaquim Santos & Miguel Oliveira
Rare Chrono built resin kit. The unfortunate Santos crashed into the crowd and that signalled the beginning of the end for Group B
RS200 f
1986 Costa Brava Rally retired Antonio Zanini & Josep Autet
Starter resin kit
RS200 g
1986 Ypres 24hrs Rally 1st Robert Droogmans & Ronny Joosten
IXO diecast - the Belga livery still one of the best
RS200 h
1986 Canaries Rally 1st overall Antonio Zanini & Josep Autet
Partwork diecast with decals corrected
RS200 i
1986 Manx Rally 3rd overall Mark Lovell & Roger Freeman
PJ Models a conversion on an IXO diecast
RS200 j
1986 RAC 5th overall Kalle Grundel & Benny Melander
HPi diecast
RS200 k
1986 RAC Rally retired Mark Lovell & Roger Freeman
Trofeu resin model
RS200 l
1986 RAC retired Stig Andervang & David West
GB Model a conversion using an IXO diecast
