Jerry, just seeing this for the first time Sunday morning. What a horrible thing to experience, no matter how much worse it could have been. Most importantly you and Mrs. Jerry are not physically hurt, but I fully understand what a hassle this is going to be to clean up and repair. Being in coastal Florida, I know all too well the wrath of Mother Nature. She will always win, all one can do is try to minimize the risk. Also very sad to hear about the percentage of forested tree loss. That will change the landscape for decades. Again, several mass wildfires in Florida over the last 30 years ago has left this lasting reminder.
Wishing you the very best as you work with your insurance and contractor...it hopefully only gets better from here.

Thanks to everyone for their best wishes. We are slowly digging out. We have many in our neighborhood that had one or multiple trees hit and badly damage homes, so all things considered, we feel very fortunate things were not worse. We were lucky, we got our power back after a week, some areas around us still don't have power. My contractor has a crew on the project and they are in the process of clearing all the trees and debris and tearing down the tractor shed to rebuild it. I am in the process of taking down all my collection cases, prints, photos, etc. down off the walls of the shop garage so they can get to work on it as soon as possible. In answer to your questions Jeff, yes we are seriously considering a whole house generator.

Holy moly - just seen this. Trust you are on the road to building recovery - as my parents would always tell me, "fortunately, nothing broken that can't be fixed". A motto I have carried with me throughout my life and impressed upon my kids. Doesn't make it painful as hell though - just glad you were all unharmed.

Jerry, like Paul, I've only seen this (I was travelling in China when the storm hit you). Happy to hear that the damage to both your property and yourself was relatively minor in the overall scheme of things. It's a pity we don't all live closer, because I've sure many of us here would have pitched in for a busy bee if we were in your area.

Thanks guys for the good thoughts and well wishes. We are on the downward leg of getting things back to "normal" . We are still on track to have all the reconstruction and repairs done by end of month. Then the task of resorting and moving part of the collection back into the space begins. Some recent health issues have slowed me down, but I am getting better at the right time. The whole episode has got me refocused on finally buckling down and downsizing the collection, which will be my next big project. Again, appreciate all the concern, well wishes and good thoughts. π

Glad to hear things are getting back to some sort of normality again Jerry. Interesting isn't it that something like this tends to makes us look "inside" on life. A bit of a check see "where in fact are we going"?
