I’ve just realised that whilst I have many biographies of the great drivers such as Moss, Clark, Fangio Senna, and even lesser lights such as Mansell, Coulthard etc. written by the likes of Nye, Ludvisgen, Henry et al, I have none whatsoever about one of the three greatest drivers of all time, Tazio Nuvolari. I see that Christopher Hilton (good writer) has written a paperback but I’m hoping for a weightier volume to add to my groaning shelves. Any ideas chaps?

Hi Stewart I agree, you do need to have a good book about the Greatest of them all . You are correct in saying there is not so much around, but I do have these that may give you some clues: The Christopher Hilton book is good and up to his usual standards. This is from the Giorgio Nada publishing house and is a gem. These two I picked up from the Nuvolari Museum in Mantua. This one is a more of a booklet. But this one is an absolute cracker. More of a coffee table book it does have some good detail, but the photos are the stars here. It also delves into Nuvolari's love of photography and has many pictures from his own collection. It is in Italian and English. Thanks for reminding me that I need to re-discover these books!

One of the staff members in my local Marks & Spencer stores was very proud to tell me he was born in and lived in Mantua, the same town as Nuvolari in North East Italy. We sometimes discuss the latest episodes of 'Bangers and Cash' tv programme! I must swot up on the great Nuvolari via one of the above books.

Thanks Martin. I too visited that museum whilst working as a consultant to an Italian drilling company. They had to drag me out as there was work to be done! I will follow up on your recommendations, knew I could rely on you. The book arrived today. The text is very flowery and is obviously a very literal translation of an effusive Italian writer’s hand but consequently is quite charming. I will certainly get Christopher Hilton’s book to get a more measured account. But the photos here are stunning. My favourite below. This one also, with the ubiquitous cigarette. Two of the three greatest drivers.
