Beautiful car, shame about the result. Love the old picture- no foil coverings to keep the heat away then, just tartan picknick blankets.

Like you the Part Works version sits in my Alfa cabinet. I best get my skates on to find the Spark version having seen this. An excellent member for the DNF LM collection.

Lovely new addition! Like Paul, I am thinking I should get one to go with the other team car I have. 😀

It is Paul. I think the yellow wheels also lift it - wouldn't be the same if it just had plain steel wheels. As Paul notes, lovely. I am eagerly awaiting mine . Geez, some people are impatient! . Beautiful car, shame about the result. Love the old picture- no foil coverings to keep the heat away then, just tartan picknick blankets. It's very tempting to try and find a bit of fabric with a tartan pattern to make a 1:43 picnic blanket Tom. Like you the Part Works version sits in my Alfa cabinet. I best get my skates on to find the Spark version having seen this. An excellent member for the DNF LM collection. The main difference is the PW version has a white number on a black roundel, which is possibly as the car practiced, but not raced. Aside from that, the PW is actually a very nice model for those who don't want to spend Spark money. Now you are talking my language! A gorgeous little race car. It would be interesting to see if Spark eventually do a few versions from your side of the pond Jeff, like this Sebring version: Lovely new addition! Like Paul, I am thinking I should get one to go with the other team car I have. 😀 If you can find one Jerry I think you'd like it, but I'm not sure how easy they are to find now. I noted Andy actually received his over 12 months ago and I was late to the party. I shall join the chorus on this one. Fab No surprise there Andy as one of the first on the forum to acquire it. Excellent addition! Thanks Julio. I thought you'd like it.

This €9 part works Ferrari was a bit of an impulse purchase as a box filler with other items from Germany, but as the only version of this car it will stay in my collection for a while until I find something better to replace it. In 1979, Ferrari's Gestione Sportiva (racing division) developed a lightened, aerodynamic version of the 512 BB for its customer racing teams. It was fitted with a lengthened streamlined body designed by Pininfarina, while the 5-litre flat-12 engine got fuel-injection and was tuned to put out 480 bhp. However, this was still no match for the lighter and more powerful Porsche 935. This car was one of two chassis first sent to the 1979 Daytona 24 Hours. However, it was withdrawn halfway through the race when the sister car suffered suspension failure and Ferrari didn’t want to risk its second car. It was then returned to Ferrari for preparation for the 1979 24 Hours of Le Mans, where it was one of five customer 512 BB's entered. While ownership of the car remained with Ferrari, it was loaned to the French Charles Pozzi's team for Le Mans, who entered it for Frenchman Jean-Claude Andruet and Italian Spartaco Dini. Andreuet set the second best time of the five Ferraris which put them 30th on the grid. Their initial race pace was great, and after 3 hours they had moved up from 30th to 11th position. However, in the fourth hour, 24 minutes was lost in two separate pit stops to refix the floor, which dropped the #62 Ferrari back to 33rd position. It took time, but by the 16th hour the #62 Ferrari was able to break back into the Top 10 with Andruet doing most of the driving. Not content with that, Andruet moved the Ferrari up into 6th position by the end of the 19th hour. Unfortunately, their race came to an end in the 21st hour when low oil pressure resulted in damaged bearings and the engine gave up. After Le Mans the engine was rebuilt by Ferrari, who retained the car for additional testing and development for the other customer owned 512 BB LM’s. However, it was never raced again and in 1984 it was deemed surplus to Ferrari’s requirements and sold to Charles Pozzi. In turn, it was sold to Prince Pierre Sanguko and road registered which remain with the vehicle to this day. After several more changes of ownership, it was eventually sold at auction by RM Sotheby’s in August 2020 for US$880,000, unrestored and still wearing its original livery. It still appears frequently at classics car shows today. Car : 1979 #62 Ferrari 512 BB LMTeam : Charles Pozzi / JMS Racing Drivers : Jean-Claude Andruet (F)/ Spartaco Dini (I) Qualifying : 30th Result : 24th (DNF) Model : Altaya (ABFRR008)

Really like that model... but 'refix the floor'?

In model terms, this is the overlooked Le Mans Ferrari. I have an Ixo (on which tooling this must be based) but it's one that has escaped the higher end manufacturers so far

Brutal car that regrettably never lived up to the promise.

This one nestles in my collection as well, and it does do an acceptable job. Interestingly, Best Model did the sister #63 quite a few years ago which is a bit sharper - did they also do they #62?

I have always liked the livery on this 512BB. Given the rate that Spark is producing models, it won't be long before the produce these as they run out of other subjects. 😁
