Here is a model you don’t see every day. In the last week or so I have been digging around searching for information, pictures and any potential links to help me with a display I am considering in the future. As can often happen on the internet when exploring and scrutinising many links of information, it is very easy to get side tracked. That is what has happened here but in a nice why. I came across this Lola T279 chassis HU22. Nothing unusual there. Initially I was surprised to find out that this car competed for 10 years, from 1972 to 1982. However, towards the end of this amazing racing stint, it was entered at the Silverstone 6 hours in 1981 in the livery of Pink Floyd's “The Wall” album, Nick Mason being one of the drivers. The album was released in 1979. Next obvious question had to be. “Has a 1:43rd model been produced of the car in that livery?” Low and behold the answer is yes it has, by a kit company called Ampersand from Denmark. I believe they produced quite a few Indy cars in the day but were eventually taken over by SMTS. From research it sounds as if this model was made around 1984 with only 100 being produced. As an end note: if one comes up for sale I could very well be interested, dependent upon condition though. I have just noticed this model has racing number #47. It raced at Silverstone under #54. So has it raced else where under this livery? The plot thickens!

Very interesting model livery. Racing Sports Cars indicates it ran at the Nurburgring 1000 Km a couple weeks after the Silverstone race with #47. No images, but would assume same livery with races that close together. It finished 16th OA and 1st in Class at the Nurburgring. The chassis has a long history going back to 1972. I think it may reside in the USA now, I saw it at either Road America or Laguna Seca vintage races. Think I have an image somewhere.

A bit late to the party, but Bizarre produced 5 versions of 'HU22' from Le Mans from 1976 thru 1980 that I'm aware of. Here's a couple of mine: 1976 (BZ157): 1977 (BZ160): 1978 (BZ167):

Funny, I never knew these cars until I saw them in model form but I really like them a lot.
