Those old hawks are a beautiful design, just brimming with character. I know a man who owns 8 Stutzes and he seems to love his Golden Hawk almost as much. Hope your Dad is doing alright, think about your situation regularly.
Happy Mother's Day to everyone's Mom (and Mum for those in the UK). I do miss mine, every day that passes...

Both of these models are absolute Gems. I should be favouring the competition car, but the Hawk is a real looker. To these foreign eyes, the best looking American car of its time - compact with just enough bling? I hope your Dad is taking to his new surroundings, this is something that we will be faced with within the next 12-24 months or so. Unfortunately Dad has lost the ability to be engrossed in most hobbies or pastimes, so won't have beautiful things like these models to look at. Oh, and good on you for being driven home in a Studebaker - I came home from the hospital in a mid '50s "humpy" Standard Vanguard, that was 10 years or so old at the time! Just as well that I was well wrapped up and couldn't be seen by the outside world .

Nice memories of happier times with your Dad, Jeff.
I'm not sure what I came home from the hospital in when I was born, but for sure it wasn't anything as interesting as these.

how different were older times, a man could have the car of his dreams in his garage. today it turns out to be more difficult, at least in my country. very nice cars had your Dad.

Happy Mother's Day to everyone's Mom (and Mum for those in the UK). I do miss mine, every day that passes... They really were a special car and it should have led to better things for Studebaker. I owe you a PM, right now I feel like I have 2 jobs, my regular one and dealing with parental issues. Not sure which one is taking more time. I understand that fully. Those two are excellent, I'm pretty sure he loves looking at them! One of the first things setup was his car collection. Both of these models are absolute Gems. Just as well that I was well wrapped up and couldn't be seen by the outside world . They got the mix just right. Doing as well as can be expected but I am not always getting the full picture as to what is going on. Getting older affects everyone. To be clear, my ride home was not that far away from frumpy... Nice memories of happier times with your Dad, Jeff. I'm not sure what I came home from the hospital in when I was born, but for sure it wasn't anything as interesting as these. See above. how different were older times, a man could have the car of his dreams in his garage. today it turns out to be more difficult, at least in my country. very nice cars had your Dad. Very true.

I understand you very well, Jeff! I brought my mother home, to live with me when the pandemic started. And, I’ve witnessed her health deteriorate little by little due mostly to dementia. These last few years have definitely been the hardest, most difficult years of my life, so far! Seeing your Dad’s models is quite enjoyable. I’ve always liked Loewy’s Studebakers, very much!

It is a real labor of love but to be truthful, sometimes it just feels like labor. And some of it is, dealing with all the paperwork and all of the outside people is maddening and 10 times harder than it needs to be.

Very nice thread and tribute to your Dad Jeff. I owe my interest in model building and miniature cars to my Dad. Unfortunately, he passed way before miniatures of cars he owned were available, but I have them in my collection. Aging parents. Something almost all of us are going through and can relate to.

Nice thread. I do have the Hawk but only because it was one of a pair of 1/24 models that I bought as a lot from a local auction house. The other car is a 1959 Impala convertible which is the one I really wanted. I also recently bought the Brooklin 1959 Lark from another auction house. My parents are now sadly no longer with us but I do have some models that represent cars that my father owned. When I worked on Saturdays in St Martins Accessories in London I discovered that the theme of collecting cars that your parents had owned was very popular. After my mother passed away last December my brother found some photos of a few of our father's cars which I now have. No idea what vehicle I came home from the hospital in as my in 1954 my father didn't drive, it's quite possible that I came home courtesy of London Transport buses.
