When I was a kid (half a century ago) I loved to go to the races with my dad. Racing around here was dirt track an the drags. My favorite drag cars were the "altereds" (particularly the AA/FA Fuel Altereds). They were fast, loud and dangerous. And they embodied the spirit of grass roots racing. None were ever modeled in 1/43 (some of the famous ones were done as 1/25 plastic kits). So I decided to right this wrong.
My first effort was "Stiletto". It's a fictitious car from a fictitious speed shop in Scranton, PA. It was build using a GMP donor car and a Solido Fiat Topolino. Look for the Easter eggs in the photos.
Stiletto needed a rival so "Magic Dragon" was born.
"Hitman" came about thanks to our good friend Jean B. He was building one of his remarkable replicas of a Hispano-Suiza so when I found an old Solido H-S at a toy show I couldn't resist the urge to build one of my own. As we all know, JB is a great sport with an excellent sense of humor. He gave me the bird...wait...he sent me the bird for the front of the car. I smile every time I look at this one.
I've always wanted to have a real "old school" hot rod in my collection. "Rat Fink" fits the bill. It's an Ertl Chevy married to a heavily modded GMP chassis and a lot of parts from the bin.
This was the result of a bit of imagination and a bit more French wine. It's a Solido Citreon 2CV AA/FA.
The last one is a tribute to the best ""modder" I have ever seen (you know who you are ).
It's a generic VW beetle spliced (with great effort) to a fuelie chassis. Much of this is scratch built.
