Great looking models of cars that I don’t like as much as I like their immediate predecessors! Its design became far too squarish! I must confess a strong aversion for CanAm race cars, they always remind me of the beds that were created based on those cars!

That's a great collection Jerry, especially when you consider how few of these cars have been produced by the mainstream model makers. As we've mentioned many times, surely its a missed opportunity for someone (Spark, Minichamps etc).

Yes, Ferrari and licencing strategies... I don't think any model collector is happy with their politics.

Excellent thread, I always liked the 512 and remember seeing them in 1970/71 at the 1000K (I think) races at Brands Hatch, they did make a rather lovely noise although they didn't win. Back then some toy manufacturers made models of racing sports cars which included Solido who did both the 512S in either red or yellow and the 512M in the beautiful Sunoco livery, easily the best looking 512M. I used to buy them and still have them all be it Porsches, Lolas, Matras, Fords, Alfas etc. Another French company was Super Champion who made a range of plastic 917s, Lola T70s and 512s in authentic race liveries, I have some of those too. We will allow the 612 P Jeff since it originally used a 512 S engine, but was derived from the 412 P, not the 512.

Excellent topic Jerry. Certainly grabbed my attention. I never witnessed any 512's in combat in the day but fully appreciate them today. Thanks for sharing.

Mr. Oldirish, I am astonished with this fantastic selection of yours... Here is my modest contribution. I already showed here the 512 Longtail, an upgrade of a partswork / Ixo-Altaya model. The 512 Gelo Racing Team is an transformation of Brumm's model. I am still trying to figure out a good and secure way of fixing the periscope type rear mirrors in the front wings... Also have two Solido's 512 M in the garage waiting for their turn. Next will probably be the beautiful Sunoco version, and I predict that it wont be easy to find paint with the right colour – Sunoco Blue / RAL 5002...

Great job on the Altaya conversion. I've had one of those on my "to do" list for years. Nice to see one completed! I converted a Solido a good number of years ago to the Gelo car, but the gold faded badly over the years for some reason. I'm not sure if I have seen any of the tall mirrors aftermarket, but then I have not looked. Good luck on the other conversions, I'm sure they will turn out well too.

Señor Jerry, sorry I am late to your post. Unfortunately, the only Ferraris in my collection is a PW 365GTB4, which is very common, we even discussed about the width of the axes and a Bang 250 GT from Reims that you should have for sure (with an interesting story, I will write it some day!). Indeed, you have an incredible collection, and I appreciate the thematic selections. In this case, there are several brands/makers that I do not know. If I have to pick, I choose my favorites from the little details, which I know from my own experience that are the most difficult to achieve. Those details that nobody will miss when are ommited, but the maker makes the effort to include them. Illario and Technomodel. From the first, I only knew the name. Thanks for sharing! Gaucho
