This is not exactly new, some of you have most certainly experienced it. Facing a two week holliday period, I dont know what model will work next, a sort of stage fright of the modeller... Have a dozen Ferraris in the garage, a Porshe 2.7 Carrera from Solido, a plastic Lola T-70 from Safir-Champion, a rare V8 Serenissíma ... On the image, the most immediate candidates: Daytona Corsa from Solido, my idea is to do exactly the same car #36 yellow of LeMans 1972, but with the skills and technique I have today; Partswork Fiat 124, a very perfect model I want to change and give a factory colour; Corgi's Ferrari Dino 206 – Wheels, windshield, front lights, I will be facing some difficulties here... and yet, I already made the decals for #38 NART LeMans 1966. Alfa Romeo 2600 from Solido – I like this car a lot, and this vintage series 100 is quite good, but it was given to me as it is: Front pillars are gone and roof is bent towards left... To start this work I need to find someone able to melt two thin pieces of zamac between the body and the roof. Maybe someone that works in jewellery... Finally, the Mercedes Gullwing: This is a plastic model from a late small portuguese toy manufacturer – Plásticos Radar – and it's shape is better than it looks at first sight. It´s quite workable, but will require proper wheels, new windows and all the visible interior. Recreating one of the top classic cars in the world with this model is a tempting idea.

You certainly have some work ahead of you, but know how satisfying making something better than what you started with cab be. On the Alfa, have you considered working brass or plastic strips to make the pillars?

I dont know if brass and zamac melt properly...it is easy to make plastic pillars, but i'm not aware of a glue or other product able to melt plastic with metal.

Would love to see what you do with the Serenissíma. It is standing, waiting in line for years...1968 v8 Serenissima is not a well documented car, and Politoys model is a very rough and unnacurate toy.

I dont know if brass and zamac melt properly...it is easy to make plastic pillars, but i'm not aware of a glue or other product able to melt plastic with metal. I was thinking the use of epoxy to glue the pillars to the top and body, filling in with suitable filler and sanding to make it look seamless. I wasn't thinking of a need to melt the pillar material to the body.

Thanks, Oldirish. But if I'm going to do this job, I´ll try the best and most solid way...
