I always have been a Flashlight guy, my Uncle got me started back in the 60's by giving me a (for the time) very powerful light when I joined the Scouts and was going on camping trips. Since then i have always had them scattered all over the house and cars, some cheap but effective brands and some upper end stuff. It is very dark where i live because we are up against the water so there is no "light pollution" and us hillbillies not even having street lights mean that my early morning walks need some illumination. I have a very powerful and bright 1000 Lumen light for that or sometimes I use my headlight which is also quite bright. Most pf the time I use my headlight for working on things. So, I wanted to replace the light I use for work with a rechargeable light as I an tired of buying batteries for it. I joined a couple Flashlight pages to possibly get some input as to what to get. Big mistake! Flashlight people are the worst! I am on Diecast, 1:1 car, Gun, Knife and tool sites and you know what we get. Some heavy buying and strange justifications for doing so but mostly people just buying what they like. Not so with flashlight people, they take it to an entirely different level. Needless to say, I found something that works out great for me and was very reasonably priced. I forgot to take a picture of it but its small and black and very bright. Here is my hoard of the better brands.

Thanks for sharing this Jeff. I too have always lived in very 'dark' places and value illumination as I am outside often. I've even asked you what lights you were buying at Amazon and I wasn't clear....well here they are!
Don't you just love this age of rechargeable AND led? What a winning combo of power, convenience and affordability. I just snagged 2 'unbranded' lights at WalMart online. Bought them since they mimicked (identical) a high quality bike like I bought years ago that I love that still going strong. Anyway, 2 for under $10 shipped direct from CN. Gave one to my Dad and he's hooked too.
One fun fact for anybody new to LED! The LED light spectrum will illuminate spider eyes when used in pitch black. You not believe how many spiders are roaming around my yard at night...not really as creepy as it sounds as we are bigger than them!

I used to have a few Maglites, those were always high quality. Loved the rechargeable LED Maglites, they lasted forever.

Rechargable is good and bad, I have a few using regular batteries for the just in case factor. The technology has gotten so good that you cab light up and entire room with a single AAA light. I have some "No Name' lights around and as good as they are, they pale against the more established brands but the good thing is, unless you have an expensive one around, the no name is fantastic. No spiders but I do see my fair share of skunk and raccoons. I used to have a few Maglites, those were always high quality. Loved the rechargeable LED Maglites, they lasted forever. I had a AA Maglite and a D cell Maglight for decades, this was before LED. They were great but almost laughable now.

Nice flashlight collections Here's mine in a groupshot: I guess the mini Maglite is the highest quality one, but it's still with incandescent bulb, all others are with LED's, even that old school looking Varta flashlight. Perhaps most unusual is the hand crank light, found it used from flea market. I guess it should have external charger too, but that one was missing. It's more of a "gadget" than really usable flashlight. The silver mini flashlight with Atlas logo, if I recall, that one came with Atlas collection Volvo PV444 model years ago. I've found most useful the Energy+ flaslight with movable handle, magnet, and other attaching methods it has.

I had the D Cell Maglight that was a good foot or so long, carried for light and defensive purposes. However now I can have a light the size of my pinky that is brighter the Maglight was given away. The good thing about technology is even low end stuff is fantastic compared to things of the past. I have a radio/light that is hand crank, like you say it is more of a novelty than anything else. I have a few of those Energy+ (different branding) out in the garage and they are great.
