I need your advice, guys! Here are some photos of the damaged wheel of my recently arrived Matrix models Duesenberg. This is how it should look (driver’s side)… …and this is how it looks right now (passenger side)… Some more photos… And…, this is the heavily scratched acrylic case… Would you try to sand it and then polish it?

Julio, can you remove the spare from that side and exchange with the damaged wheel? I don't know if you would ever get that wheel back to its original shape or not, but maybe enough to use as a spare? If not, perhaps use a wheel from a Solido or Rio Dusenberg as the spare until you find something better? Is the case just scratched on one side? Image makes the scratches look deep and may not buff out. If it won't and it's just that side, I would cut out a printed scene, or a reflective piece of mylar or aluminum foil glued to the inside of the case to cover it. Those are my thoughts.

Thanks for your advice, Jerry! I might try to fix the wheel, but I don’t know how to detach it from the axle, I think that it would make it easier to work on it. I also thought about using one of the model’s spare wheels but I think it would still look strange. I’m sure something like this would be a piece of cake for someone like our fellow model maker, Jean! The case is only scratched on one side and yes, they are deep. I think that your idea about using something to cover that side sounds quite good. By the way, today I checked the package used to pack the model and I now suspect that the scratch was made by a careless customs official.

Like Jerry, my first thought was can you change it for the spare. That said, I feel a bit like the damaged wheel might be beyond repair unless you could fabricate another photo-etched piece to replace the damaged part.

I'd use a fork with prongs either side of the axle to get the wheel off. Frankly, I'd try to straighten it as much as possible and use it as a rear wheel on the side you don't display.

This morning I sent another email to Matrix, to see if they can send me any other wire wheel; I feel that it could help me repair the damaged one. Let’s wait for their answer! I'd use a fork with prongs either side of the axle to get the wheel off. Frankly, I'd try to straighten it as much as possible and use it as a rear wheel on the side you don't display. Thank you, Tom! Using the fork sounds perfectly logical but a bit scary too!

Is there flex in that loose wheel centre? If so i'd would start with pushing it back into place and then with very fine tweezers re-align the spokes as much as possible Taking the wheel off might cause more damage to the model unless it comes off easily As to the case, yes you could spend an age sanding it down with finer and finer grades of paper but frankly i'd just try and get a new one

So, I’ll probably follow your advice. As for the case, I’ll definitely do what Jerry suggested, while I wait for a chance to get a replacement at a decent price. Thanks for your comments, Andy!
