Does anyone have experience scanning a hardcover book (or magazine) with their smartphone via an APP? If so, any tips on doing this well? Some of these books have hundreds of pages. I believe there is sophisticated equipment that can do it, but I'm more a DIY (meaning cheap) sort of guy!
This is something I'd like to do at present on a very limited basis, and perhaps much moreso in the future as time might allow? Thanks for any ideas

I've done that professionally by cutting the spine and feeding the individual pages into a double-sided scanner. After that, the book was bound again.

Have been looking into this, and there ARE somewhat reasonably priced scanners that will scan the pages, center them etc etc. I ask all of this since I am very fascinated by digitized collection of old magazines and books and think it would be incredibly fascinating to have a whole collection of Road & Track or a multitude of other complete collection in digital format.
Certainly don't have time for this now, but this is my idea of a good time, hahahah! Very surprised more people have not done this!

Probably cheaper and quicker to package all your books up and send them to India for someone there to scan and send back to you. There must be 3rd parties that do this sort of thing?

I have a large collection of Vintage Motorsports magazines you can have for your project. If we ever make that road trip your way, I will drop them at your doorstep. 😁
