Sorry this is late and only one day left of the auction of John Frankenheimer's model collection. I just found out today. Besides being a top name director of some great movies (Grand Prix is my favorite), he was an avid 1/43 collector. His 3,000 piece collection is being auctioned off and there is one final day left, Sunday the 19th of November. There are many interesting handbuilt and ready built models and overall, prices realized for AMR, BBR, FDS and other rare models (mainly Ferrari) have been low ( $20-$50). Worth a look if nothing else. www.liveauctioneers.com/catalog/308040_john-frankenheimer-model-car-collection-day-3/Did I buy anything? Maybe. 😉

Cheers Jerry, I did see an old photo of his collection on the Hagerty website only a few days ago. He was a regular customer at the original St Martins model shop in London but I never saw him although I have met and served other well known people. I don't think it is worth me bidding assuming they send stuff overseas, by the time shipping and duty is included (and the possibility of damage) it's not for me. Hope to see what you have purchased in due course.

Yeah, with 25% buyers premium and no set price on shipping, you have to be careful what you bid. I don't think they promoted the auction very well. There were many of the same bidders and expect much may turn up on eBay. He definitely spent top dollar for many of the models in his collection and there were/are some very nice pieces from Buzz Lockwood, one of the best builders anywhere. Once here and sorted, I will show my "finds", mostly Ferrari, but did get a Abingdon Classics MG SA for $8.75 including buyers premium. Most expensive lot for me was $43.75 (Inc. Premium) each for a couple BBR Ferrari race cars. If they don't hammer me on shipping, I did okay.
