I had the Esso tanker too, bought it in '76 or '77 in the UK. Dinky was bankrupt by then and the models were bargains. I looked in every WH Smith's we encountered and spent my entire allowance on Dinkies and Corgis.

Fabulous models, Paul! I once had that Studebaker and the car transporter too! Unfortunately, they did not survive! Here are a few more photos taken this morning: This is my oldest surviving model, a Dinky! The driver didn’t survive! My all time favourite Corgi model and quite possibly from my whole collection! Another Imperial, that lost its figurines long time ago… The Monkeymobile and two Pontiacs, a Siku and a Matchbox. The Matchbox is among my oldest surviving models! 007’s Toyota! Bought at a swap meet in California, during the early 80s. A Mini Marcos in its original box… A Schuco model that my grandfather gave me as a birthday present, many years ago! A Peugeot by Solido, bought during the early 80s. Another Solido model, bought in a model swap meet while I was living in Germany, during 1986. And, there’s one of my newest old Dinkys. Paul’s own Rolls-Royce model was the influence behind me getting it!

Amongst all your models, Noddy's car brought a smile to my face Julio.

What a magnificent reminder of an another age and era Paul! While much of this is even before my time (and I'm not a young man anymore), I get great joy in seeing these pics. That service station in all of its 'rustic' glory paints an image of children of perhaps from 1950s on your fair island playing and just having fun without any TECH whatsoever! Heck, there may not have even been a TV set in the home As I get older and see everything around me changing at breakneck speed, really comforting to see your 'old' toys.

Nostalgia rules for me too! Some colour variations here (car transporters) that I've not seen before. I had a friend who was 'adopted' and his 'aunt' doted non him, buying him Dinky Toys from our local toyshop each month as they were released. Talk about me envying his collection! I had to wait for Christmas or birthday... Was I jealous? Not really as I could view every new release as it arrived at my friend's house.
When I reached working age I was prompted by my Mother to sell off my Dinky and Corgi Toys as they were regarded as no longer appropriate to have and would bring me some cash ahead of Christmas that year.
It would be several years later that I would weaken and buy a Solido Maserati Mistrale and Politoys Lamborghini 350 GT. Present collection now stands at 1200 items. My very first and now treasured Dinky Toys model from 1954 is number 157 Jag XK120 in Olive Green. Much battered from pavement racing it has a mint one keeping it company.

I really got into model cars in the early seventies and for me Corgi was the brand to go for. They were modelling many exotic and obscure cars at this time which I feel has shaped my collecting to this day. I've sold most of the collection to help pay for expensive modern handbuilts but still retain my favourites - Iso Grifo, Mangusta, Chey Astro, Probe 16 and the magnificent Bond Bug to name a few. I've kept all in mint condition in their boxes - I was a careful/boring child and it used to horrify me when I went to a friends house and they were smashing their cars together.

Another one from my old toy box. My grandfather was a foreman at a local lumber company (that's him on the far right) and several toys as a lad were like ones he drove including this Dodge truck. Not the 1/1 version in the background. I had several of these Land Rovers growing up. Here's one that survived. We had tunnels, but they went through mountains, not under rivers. When it was explained to me what the Mersey Tunnel was, it wasn't something I could really comprehend at the time. An Austin sedan from the 1950's on the flat bed of an AEC truck I bought new in the early 70's. I lost interest in collecting new Dinky when they moved to Whizwheels. A van I repainted sometime in the 1960's. Some of my many military Dinky's that survived many battles and being left out in the rain in my mother's garden.
