I really got into model cars in the early seventies and for me Corgi was the brand to go for. They were modelling many exotic and obscure cars at this time which I feel has shaped my collecting to this day. I've sold most of the collection to help pay for expensive modern handbuilts but still retain my favourites - Iso Grifo, Mangusta, Chey Astro, Probe 16 and the magnificent Bond Bug to name a few. I've kept all in mint condition in their boxes - I was a careful/boring child and it used to horrify me when I went to a friends house and they were smashing their cars together. I guess that I was a “careful/boring child” too, because I was also horrified by the barbaric behavior you’ve described! Oh, and people playing with their Corgis in the mud, simply disgusting! By the way, I always wanted Corgi’s Iso Grifo but my parents never found it! … An Austin sedan from the 1950's on the flat bed of an AEC truck I bought new in the early 70's. I lost interest in collecting new Dinky when they moved to Whizwheels. … I also hated Whizzwheels and had the hope that Corgi would eventually return to regular, rubber wheels!

Nostalgia rules for me too! Some colour variations here (car transporters) that I've not seen before. I had a friend who was 'adopted' and his 'aunt' doted non him, buying him Dinky Toys from our local toyshop each month as they were released. Talk about me envying his collection! I had to wait for Christmas or birthday... Was I jealous? Not really as I could view every new release as it arrived at my friend's house. When I reached working age I was prompted by my Mother to sell off my Dinky and Corgi Toys as they were regarded as no longer appropriate to have and would bring me some cash ahead of Christmas that year. It would be several years later that I would weaken and buy a Solido Maserati Mistrale and Politoys Lamborghini 350 GT. Present collection now stands at 1200 items. My very first and now treasured Dinky Toys model from 1954 is number 157 Jag XK120 in Olive Green. Much battered from pavement racing it has a mint one keeping it company. Ah the car transporters. Two are not original, the first being the grey version carrying Triumphs. It's sort of a Code 3, it was made from the normally blue transporter with the Bedford cab into this grey one pulled by the Commer cab more usually seen on the Dinky breakdown truck. The light blue transporter is again a Code 3, well the trailer is. A nice guy that I buy old stuff from at my local fair makes these from very down at heel models that have seen much better days. He also made the Brabham coach transporter. Please note no nice models were used as the basis for these, they were all battered and had lost much of their paint due to young boys enthusiastically playing with them as I think we all did. It's nice that your friend was adopted and treated to new Dinky Toys every month, like you I had usually to wait for Christmas or birthday apart from an occasional treat. I can picture you looking at your friend's new models, it was what we did. Mums have a lot to answer for, so many boys lost their models as mum thought they were too old so they gave them away to family members or jumble sales, I bought a Dinky Standard Vanguard for an old penny at a jumble sale back in the 60s, I really wanted the Zephyr but my friend snaffled it. I still have that Vanguard which got treated to one of my "excellent" repaints. Keep collecting! I have way too much stuff but do not have the willpower to stop. Quite a few duplicates too including that Corgi Iso Grifo Julio! Nice old Dinkys Jerry, I think you could leave them in the garden for years and they would survive. I just bought another of those Austin A40 sedans. The repainted van is nice, it's a Morris Z van and was a very nice model for its time.

Lots of cool, memories filled, models, Paul! I once had that 1961 Ford police car by Dinky and the Citroën Tour de France by Corgi! Unfortunately they didn’t survive!

Great, memories filled models, Paul! I have two versions of the Astro concept car, the older one with non whizzwheels is also lacking its passenger!

Thanks Julio.
I also have two versions of the Astro, the other with what are known as red spot wheels (like the 911 Polizei Targa above) was I think a Christmas present. As a race car mad youngster I put number 9 decals on it, a fate suffered by other models. I think it still has the female passenger and its box.

My Corgi James Bond Aston Martin. I received this as a gift at Christmas or Easter in the late 60's from my parents. I was getting older and didn't play much with toy cars at that time, so it mostly stayed in its box, intact with all its paperwork, etc. When my daughter was growing up, she liked it when I would take it out of its case and eject the passenger. She was always fond of it and has it now. That and an old Tonka milk truck I had as a wee lad.

I also have the Astro and I remember ditching the sissy girl passenger was one of the first things I did! I would really like a state of the art resin version.

Nice conversion though it should be red of course. I guess this is one of the easier Corgis to modify as there isn't much in the way of ancillary details such as wipers and trim though I'm always put off by the rivetted baseplates; screws would be so much easier.
