I already have a Stirling Moss collection and recently started a Jim Clark collection based on my old Scottish Drivers collection. I then realised that within my “Favourites” collection I had quite a few of the “Maestro’s” cars. So off we go again! Shown below are nine cars to kick things off, there are some more dotted about to add to these right now, more to follow. I wonder if any other members have such a collection. Any input or advice is welcomed. Wickapedia have excellent coverage, mainly of F1 info and RSC as usual will be essential for his extensive Sports Car endeavours. Below is link to the RSC site. www.racingsportscars.com/driver/archive/Juan%20Manuel-Fangio-RA.html

I have a web page devoted to Fangio, which I have to admit is woefully out of date and missing many additions since it was created. I have concentrated on his F1 and sportscar drives in the 1950's, but earlier cars from his road racing days in Argentina would be cool! You have prompted me to get busy and update my sight! www.oldirish.com/collection/Fangio.html

I much enjoyed revisiting your inspirational website Jerry. I found some good models of his earlier cars on eBay from Partworks issues linked to his official museum in Balcarce. I should have bought more of them since they are no longer so abundant. The magazines are good quality and helped my Spanish linguistic skills to some extent! I think the models are IXO derivatives.

As the saying goes, "Your Going to Need a Bigger Cabinet".
Have a look for Spark's 1953 LM Alfa Romeo 6C if you can find one at a decent price.

PM me if you are interested in the Spark Alfa that Ian has mentioned Stewart. I have ended up with 2 of them and would be happy to let one go at mate’s rates.

Interested to know what the number 2 and 19 cars are. Picked up a load of the vintage Brumm racers a while back and have also grabbed a few classic NASCAR models in the last few weeks.

Thanks for your interest Stevie, The following screenshot shows a spreadsheet of the collection so far. The #19 is his first racecar, a modified, borrowed A type Ford Taxi as shown below. The #2 is his Chevrolet “Master Cupe” with which he had much early success. Below is a link to an article which mentions both cars. www.jmfangio.org/remembertm.htmThe #19 is an excellent model by Autocult, #2 is from an official partworks magazine that provided several of the models in the collection.

Got quite excited by this obviously erroneous eBay listing. The top car is obviously an indycar and never ran at Pescara. However I had read somewhere about Fangio’s dalliance with the race and wondered if this was the car. Not so! A bit of research came up with this. This article gives some background. 100years100moments.wordpress.com/2016/03/31/57-when-fangio-came-to-town/It could be an interesting project to produce that #77 car. It would need a suitable donor car and decals from INDYCALS or similar. Might be something for Jerry or Alex to have a go at?

Another facinating thread of yours to follow Stewart. In my early days of following motorsport I never got into the Fangio thing. My focus was else where. However, that has since been corrected after I read his history. The effort he put into his early career was quite unbelievable. Racing across the vast miles of South America plus doing his own repairs. Respect.

A new addition.
This is a pretty good model by Atlas which I think is an Ixo derivative. It is made in Bangladesh. There is a bit of a mystery as to it’s provenance as regards the year and the race meeting it represents. Atlas label it as 1949 but an identical looking model by Altaya is labelled 1950. I found this image below on Wikipedia which seems to confirm 1950. —————————————————————
However this also is problematic in that it gives the date of that race as the 8th of May (Monday) whereas records seem to indicate the race was run on the 8th of January (Sunday), which would be more likely. See below. ————————————————————————
And so into the cabinet…….

Stewart, Nice add! I acquired one of these years ago sold under the Edicola PW brand (part of a Fangio collection?) Here is the information I had on the car at the time: 1 949-1951 166 F2 (GP of Modena, 1950) - Juan Manuel Fangio drove for Equipo Argentino (Automobile Club of Argentina) in European Formula 2 races between his F1 drives for Alfa Romeo in 1950. In its distinctive Argentine colors, Fangio raced this car at the GP of Modena, but retired after 17 laps with a blown engine. The 166 was originally designed to accept a 1.5L supercharged V12, but for F2 and the changing F1 engine formula, it used a Colombo designed 2.0L V12, producing 155 bhp.
I think this came from one of my books on Fangio, but I can't be certain. If you find out that's not correct, let me know.
