Le Mans 1955 saw the debut of what was considered to be at the time the best sports cars in the world, the Mercedes Benz 300 SLR which had just won on it's debut at the Mille Miglia. Producing 300hp from its 3 litre straight eight and with an additional air brake to cope with the heavy braking demands at Le Mans, Mercedes brought three cars to the race with one going to the driver pairing of Pierre Bouillin (Pierre Levegh) & John Fitch. Levegh would start the car and by the end of the first hour be in 7th and then 6th by the end of the second hour and was charging hard in the third hour at the end of lap 34 when he struck the back of Lance Macklin's Austin Healey outside the pits and went airborne into the crowd resulting in his death and that of 83 spectators

Terrible drama. I don't think any manufacturer has ever made the Levegh car, at least it's new to me. Another ace model though.

Great to see the Mercedes close up in the flesh. I've had them on order for over a year, so nice to know their not far away and I can list my old Minichamps on eBay.

At one time I didn't think we would ever see a model of that car. Nice add!

Isn't she just Terrible drama. I don't think any manufacturer has ever made the Levegh car, at least it's new to me. Another ace model though. I'm not sure if it's ever been modelled before either. It is as you say excellent Great to see the Mercedes close up in the flesh. I've had them on order for over a year, so nice to know their not far away and I can list my old Minichamps on eBay. Just recently arrived on these shores so yours can't be far away. I only got the Kling car from MC and decided not to replace that with the Spark. Based on Jerry's post i wont be able to tell much difference from 3 foot At one time I didn't think we would ever see a model of that car. Nice add! Likewise, i never thought i'd see it modelled either

1963 saw the return of Scuderia Sant Ambroeus with their Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZs to Le Mans after their fine tenth placed finish of the previous year with driver pairing of Giancarlo Sala & Romolo Rossi in the #39 car who would place 37th on the grid. They would make good progress reaching 21st after 6 hours and 14th by half distance ultimately reaching 12th overall before gearbox issues in the 15th hour would see them fall away to 16th and ultimately retirement after completing 155 laps

Alpine were able to field 11 cars at Le Mans in 1968 spread across the works team, Ecurie Savin-Calberson and several privateers, and it was the privateers who entered the newly homologated A110 in the 1300 GT class. Bernard Collomb was one of the privateers, and he entered with driving partner François Laccarrau and the pair qualified 54th and would essentially run at the back of the field gaining places through attrition reaching 38th at quarter distance, 28th at half distance, 23rd by three-quarter distance and 18th and last car home at the finish but with only 167 laps to their credit they were not classified due to insufficient distance Spark - Alpine A110 - 1968 Le Mans 24 Hours - B.Collomb & F.Laccarrau - NC
