Very nice display! I wish we had a local club of that sort. The only model club in the area only seems interested in kit built hot rods.

Even with a 3.6m display I still ran out of space, so only displayed two of my Porsche O-317 transporters.
Since these pictures were taken in 2018, I've also added the 1953 Pegaso transporter (Salvat), the 1960 Porsche Opel Blitz transporter (Schuco), the 1964 Porsche MAN 635 transporter (Schuco), the 1976 Porsche Kremer 'Vaillant' transporter (IXO) and the 1982 Porsche Rothmans Transporter (IXO). There are also several more support vans and buses. I have many of these on permanent display, but unfortunately they take up too much space to display them all.

Geroge Loos' "Gelo" team ran a variety of machinery, including Porsches, despite what it said on the side of the transporter.  |

This is stirring memories of my Airfix kit Bristol Superfreighter, the 1:1 of which operated flying across the English Channel for 9 years 1953 to 1962 from Lydd Airport in Kent. From there the Bristol Freighter flew to Le Touquet in France. The road trip from Rob Walker HQ in Dorking in Surrey to the far end of Kent is probably 70+ miles and on non dual carriageway roads. Gatwick in those days was a predominantly passenger operation. I used to read Eagle Comic which did cut away diagrams and Airfix magazine.
A petrol station now stands where Rob Walker's operation used to be.
Apologies for this slight diversion and childhood memories.

Several years ago when Spark ran a competition looking for new ideas, I suggested they make a 1:43 Bristol Freighter. So many racing cars were carried across the channel to race with those ‘transporters’.  |
