As I mentioned elsewhere, I had some pre orders floating around. 2 came this week, one may never get built. This first one was a must have for me as I have lusted after this car practically my entire life. The Ford J-Car was never raced with this body on it, it was merely a test car and the only time it was seen in public was at the LM test day in 1966. Even though it did not handle well and the aerodynamic package proving it was less than stellar, it did manage to set fast time of the test. It did show that the chassis design had merit it also showed it was far from race ready when the chassis failed in the Ken Miles fatal accident some months later. After improvements it bred the GT40 MKIV that won the 2 races it was entered in. This car is the missing link in the GT40 development. The Spark model is from the LM Test day where Bruce McLaren put it through its paces.

Well, you've got a reputation to keep up as the GT specialist of MS143... Great addition, love it!

A GT40 Breadvan? Definitely not as elegant as a “normal” GT40 but very much an interesting piece of history. It will feel right at home and amongst friends on your shelves.

Like you Jeff, I have had a fascination with the J car ever since I tried to build an MPC 1/25 kit of it back in the late 60's. Great Add! Thought you might like this image of Phil Remington working on the J Car chassis with body mods of what would become the MkIV in the Ford wind tunnel.

Glad to see you found something new that ticks all your boxes Jeff.
As it only ran in practice I wasn’t going to get one, but after reading all the favourable comments here I’m having second thoughts.

You can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs but I have always favored the looks of this to the MKIV that followed, maybe because it had such a brief shelf life. The one that got away? I remeber when you got yours, that jealousy you felt was real. Like you Jeff, I have had a fascination with the J car ever since I tried to build an MPC 1/25 kit of it back in the late 60's. You might want to have it, it is an important piece on the GT40/LM puzzle.

My second car in the box is one that sort of surprised me as this one did not have a long lead time. It is a One of 500 release, I assume there will be many others by the other drivers/colors from the IROC series. This one was driven by Bobby Unser to a win at Michigan International Speedway. I watched all of these races with great interest as racing on TV was not a regular thing back then.I remember there was talk that the black car was a little faster then the other cars, sometimes when building identical cars, one is just a bit better. There was quite a stellar field in the series. Bobby Unser Cale Yarborough David Pearson Bobby Allison George Follmer Emerson Fittipaldi Ronnie Peterson Johnny Rutherford A. J. Foyt Richard Petty Graham Hill Jody Scheckter Back then the IROC serties really meant something and was a great way for drivers to pick up some real cash as nobody was making mega money in those days. These Camaros were used as a cost saving measure as opposed to the previous years Porsche's. These cars were more or less hopped up street cars and after this one was destroyed at Riverside it led to changes in the way they were built. Spark did a very nice job in capturing the look.

Love the brutal J car but it's got numbers on it. Fortunately for me Spark have taken the unusual step of announcing a numberless version. That one will definitely be coming my way.

Love seeing the Spark treatment applied to more common 'murican cars! This along with that great Monza really capture the spirit. Very happy your old pre-orders came to be Jeff

I’m sure that “Uncle Bobby” would tell you that the black car was after because he was driving it, or because he waved his magic set-up ability across it . The black does suit the car well.

Love the brutal J car but it's got numbers on it. Fortunately for me Spark have taken the unusual step of announcing a numberless version. That one will definitely be coming my way. I see Spark have simply referred to this as the “Test Riverside 1966” without any mention of the fact it was the car in which Ken Miles had his fatal accident. I have no issue with them doing the car (just as they have done many other cars from fatal racing accidents), but I would like to have seen Miles acknowledged. Rant over, so on to the Camaro and it looks great. The only other black Camaro I recall is from Smokey and the Bandit, but this is way better looking.
