I like all those, but the Alfas and the RX7 are my favourites. This is a Manta B. If you compare the greenhouses you'll notice the similarity

Much better. I know, those Autoart/Biante 70's & 80's Fords and Holdens ate fetching a pretty penny these days but probably justified as the quality detail is second to none.
As an aside, at the car show I mentioned in my other thread, there was a silver Opel Mantra coupe with a vk commodore front and personalied plates "prototype' or words to that affect (never got a pic sadly)
There is one Falcon you are missing that I have 😜

I'm not sure i've ever seen a Manta GTE in red. White mostly, occasional black and grey. Carries it well A friend had one, and he was as serial chain smoker, so there was ash everywhere inside, which we called the Vesuvius effect. Today, I think I'd recoil in horror but in our late teens we didn't care mainly because it moved
On topic - Martin, you have a superb collection of Tourers going on here

The stance on those Falcons really mean business. Low and ready to pounce.

Those XD/XE Falcons always remind me of the European Mk2 Granada but I think they are just a tad larger. The Dick Johnson ones are iconic aren't they? I like the RX7 too, looks tough with those big arches although I always wondered how a sportscar could be eligible to race in saloon racing, they were raced here too, I believe an RX7 won our main championship. That said of course for some reason the Porsche 911 could race as a saloon car until about 1970-ish. I see that you say that Harry Firth could be prickly but we had a bit of a chat and I bought his Cortina booklet. He was married to a lass who was originally from South London and he correctly placed my accent as being from there. He was getting on a bit and had a guy who I guess was his helper/carer.
Of course Camaros next year, the old Mustang versus Camaro battles live on. The reds will have to go with it, it is after all GM and the Commodores are Chevy powered are they not?

I like all those, but the Alfas and the RX7 are my favourites. This is a Manta B. If you compare the greenhouses you'll notice the similarity At the time we were probably a bit blinkered in our views on "our" cars and wouldn't consider they may have foreign input Tom . I think with maturity it shouldn't come as any surprise to think that "Australia's Own" Holden could nick stuff from their cousins. I have a feeling you may have liked that era of Australian touring car racing Tom as the cars carried a lot of road car DNA. The class was known as Group C "Improved Production" so the racers had were just modified versions of what you could buy in the showrooms - engines were the same size and a full interior, including doorcards, dashboards and seats, had to be retained. The cars started off in 1973 as equivalent to Group 1.5 in Euro-speak, but by the time they finished in 1984 they were more like Group 2+ - BMW's entry in the '80s was basically a slightly modified Group 2 635 CSi. Much better. I know, those Autoart/Biante 70's & 80's Fords and Holdens ate fetching a pretty penny these days but probably justified as the quality detail is second to none. As an aside, at the car show I mentioned in my other thread, there was a silver Opel Mantra coupe with a vk commodore front and personalied plates "prototype' or words to that affect (never got a pic sadly) There is one Falcon you are missing that I have 😜 Peter Brock and Holden did look at making a "Holden Monza" (based on the Opel A2 Monza) but while. afew cars were buiklt it didn't go anywhere. I'm wondering if the car you saw is one of these. www.whichcar.com.au/news/peter-brocks-one-off-monza-coupe-up-for-saleYeah, thanks for reminding me about the Bob Morris Channel 7 Falcon - I'm surprised you don't send me a photo of the 1:43 every few days, just for fun! The 1:1 has been restored and has recently started to appear in local Group C/A historic racing - it is still one of the better looking facers. I'm not sure i've ever seen a Manta GTE in red. White mostly, occasional black and grey. Carries it well A friend had one, and he was as serial chain smoker, so there was ash everywhere inside, which we called the Vesuvius effect. Today, I think I'd recoil in horror but in our late teens we didn't care mainly because it moved On topic - Martin, you have a superb collection of Tourers going on here Thanks Andy, the '70s, '80s and '90s were the peak time for touring car racing in my book. I loved our local cars at that tine but lustred after the Euro and UK racers which seemed so much more exotic! The stance on those Falcons really mean business. Low and ready to pounce. They were real "hairy-chested" racers Jeff, much more than the dainty Holden offerings. . Although, considering Australia's size, most of our race tracks, apart from Bathurst and a couple of others, were smaller UK-style tracks, which suited those damn dainty Holdens. Those Green XE Falcons are immense In all senses of the word Paul. The XD Falcons were very much just slightly larger Granadas Paul, on the outside at least - very much a copy-and-paste effort! The RX7 was very controversial at that time and it took Moffat a long time to get what he wanted with the car. We did have cars like the Ford Capri in the under 3-litre class, but they still had 4 seats. The touring car rules required the cars to make a minimum of 4 seats precisely for the reason you mentioned - 2 seaters, as the RX7 was, were "sports cars". You are very much correct regarding the engines in the "Commodores" that currently race in the V8 Supercars championship - they have used Chevrolet V8s since the late '90s. The engines and the flimsy look-a-like panels that cloth the spec chassis are pretty much the only things that are different between the Commodores and Ford Mustangs. I think the Holden fans will generally go with the Camaro teams next year, but reading some of the comments on the Speedcafe website (as I do for entertainment some times) there are still many Holden fans that don't want to contemplate having to barrack for a non-Holden brand . The big controversy at the moment is that "Walkinshaw Andretti United" team, which is the current iteration of the old "Holden Racing Team" are switching to Mustangs next year - many of the Holden faithful are apoplectic. . In reality, although they continue to run "Holdens", they haven't enjoyed Holden sponsorship or support for quite a few years now - Holden(and now GM's) money goes fully to the Triple Eight (Red Bull) team, whereas Ford provide support to all of the teams running Mustangs.

Nice mix, like them all but I do have a soft spot for the Sierra Cosworth. The 635 is rather nice.
