I think it’s well-known among my friends that I collect 1:43. However, when anyone who doesn’t collect models gives me one it’s almost invariably a 1:18. Perhaps the thought is that when you spend money on a model, you'd better have something tangible to show for it. When it’s this nice however, I will gladly make room for it even if it means that other models have to go. The history of the Rancho is well-known here, so I won’t repeat it. This might be the crossover’s great granddad- a car that looks like it goes anywhere yet it was FWD only and powered by a 1.2 engine. It went on asphalt but elsewhere was usually off limits. The model was made by KK-scale which is an initiative of online shop Modelissimo in Germany. You’d think it’s resin, but it’s actually die cast and really well-made. As a result of this gift I looked into the KK range (I deliberately disregard anything but 1:43 when searching) and was impressed by the number of models as well as the number of subjects. I really like this model, it’s well finished and correct and the colour is exactly as I recall KK-Scale - Talbot Simca Rancho
Great addition Tom and my feelings about KK Scale are akin to those for 1:43 by IXO. Incredible value for money. I have the Rancho in the metallic green to match my 1:43! Have several other KK Ferraris and Porsches too, not a bad one in the bunch. Now, where are those plans for the enlargement to the house ?

I thought you might appreciate this one Brooks. I wouldn't have said no to the green one either, looks great! Yeah, extending an apartment is tricky...

Interesting addition as a 1:18 scale model!

It's not exactly an obvious choice, Julio. I'm happy that they made it though, it’s a car that I really like. I'm not going to convert to 1:18 though, what a huge model. Here's the second model that I received at the same time. At one time I had hundreds of 1:18s, mostly stored away in boxes as I couldn’t display that many. Lots were Audis but I had several other interesting cars in my collection. Only a handful remain, those that didn’t find interested collectors or that got only low-priced offers. Among those strangely is a duo of very nice Minichamps models of the G-model 911- a coupé and cabriolet. I could’ve sold them at one time but couldn’t find the packaging for one, and the deal was off. Of course I love the G-model, so I was less motivated to sell or trade. I've had them for at least 15 years however and they did slip my mind when discussing trades. I was reminded when I was given this really nice and equally red 911 Speedster, my favourite of the 911s because it’s a bonkers and impractical car. Love the model, and it makes me want to dig out the two others for a huge group shot KK-Scale - Porsche 911 Speedster 1989

Recently, one of my trader contacts fell ill and was unable to conduct his business. However, he had an important auction coming up that he had already committed to. So he asked me to fill in for him, told me which models to enter and what to do. I took the photographs for the catalogue, filled out the Excel sheets detailing the model and its status, labeled them with the lot numbers, repackaged and handed them over to the courier. Apparently I did a good job because he called me after the auction to tell me his lots did very well and he was complimented on the photography (they didn’t need to reshoot at his expense) and the info. Might be that other traders just make a mess of it, and doing your job semi-decently makes you stand out… Anyway, when he got out of hospital he called me for a meet-up. He had this huge bag with him and told me we’d discussed this car a while ago and he thought he’d give me the best model as a thank-you. I’d told him earlier that I was given a partially-assembled 1:8 Monogram E-type FHC years ago that I would love to finish one day (truth be told, it’ll likely have to wait for some 15 years until I retire). So he took this out, a huge model of a fantastic car. It has a Dutch registration and it’s my favourite E: an early FHC. Guess I’ll have at least 15 more years to look at it, but I’ll need to find a prominent (and large) place to show it off. For reference: that is a 1:43 pictured next to it. I had to get out my pro studio backdrop to photograph it, no way would it fit my lightbox Norev - Jaguar E-Type FHC 1964

Absolutely gorgeous looking model of one of my favorite cars of all time! What a great story, too! Your story reminded me of the days, maybe 10 years ago or so, when you started taking photos of your models! I remember that they were quite bad and now, your photos are excellent!

Wow, that is super duper! And even better is the way you acquired it, a job well done.

What a great story and experience Tom! That is an absolutely lovely model (both really) and the color suits that classic shape so very well! 1:8? Sure you don't need to pay road tax on that

Your story reminded me of the days, maybe 10 years ago or so, when you started taking photos of your models! I remember that they were quite bad and now, your photos are excellent! Yes, I was using daylight then. Works much better with LED. It's no coincidence that 'photography' combines 'photos' and 'graphein'- writing with light.
Wow, that is super duper! And even better is the way you acquired it, a job well done. I neglected to mention this is a 1:12. This thing is over a foot long, it's huge! Actually, I'm currently working about 7 days a week but I still enjoyed this. Not all the time, but on occasion it’s a nice job. What a great story and experience Tom! That is an absolutely lovely model (both really) and the color suits that classic shape so very well! 1:8? Sure you don't need to pay road tax on that The kit is 1:8, this is 1:12. Still, it takes up an awful lot of room compared to 1:43s.

That is one heck of a deal Tom and one heck of a model! Very envious! I have seen the model for sale and the roadster equivalent. If I had someplace to display one properly I would get one. Lovely!

Yes, displaying it is the main issue. I'm currently measuring displays and thinking how I can rearrange my collection around it, so that not too many 1:43s will lose their place. Tough job.

Nice model of a very attractive car! Thanks Julio, I've always thought this a very balanced design that's aged well. Oh lovely - off to find one I thought this would be to your liking, Andy. Don't worry, plenty available for very decent prices. MCW has a jubilee model in gold that the others don't get.
