I like that, very different from the usual colour scheme.

It is an interesting livery Martin. I guess it's best to say about his racing career, it's better to have tried and failed than to have never tried at all. 😃

I like that, very different from the usual colour scheme. The colours are probably what made me push the buy button Tom. It is an interesting livery Martin. I guess it's best to say about his racing career, it's better to have tried and failed than to have never tried at all. 😃 Yes, he may not have been successful or had a sparkling results sheet, but I'd be happy to have had his racing career. It suits black, pity about the daubs Black racing cars are quite rare David, although in this case I'm not sure what led to the black and orange garb. It's different to say the least Paul. There are away from the maddening crowd for sure Jeff.

I'd love to know what the idea was behind the colour scheme. Maybe Volonterio owned a chocolate company, or a biscuit company - those are the sort of things that the colour scheme represents in my mind. Great that Best does something as obscure as this.

It is a mystery Ian. While Volonterio owned "110" for quite a while and there are photos of the car in other events, the only photo I have managed to find of the car in this livery is from when it was a "barn-find" and with Count Lurani awaiting restoration. The photo is faded and the car it not in great condition, but the colours almost seem to be a very dar blue/purple with more golden daubs. In certain light the colour of the model actually looks to be a deep purple as well.

Very 70's colour scheme. Always good to have a different TZ on your shelves Martin.

This model had to be tracked down, considering the recent addition to my 1:1 collection. Minichamps have done very good versions of the later Tipo 916 Alfa Romeo Spider and GTV, these cars having the Alfa-family facelift that aligned their looks with the updated 147 and 156. Models of the earlier versions have been left to manufacturers at the budget end of the scale, including this one. The Tipo 916 Spider and GTV were launched to the public at the 1995 Geneva Motor Show. The cars used the Fiat Type Two platform that also underpinned the Alfa Romeo 145/146 range as well as the Fiat Tipo and Coupe and the Lancia Delta. The Spider and GTV did use a heavily modified version of the Type Two platform, reflecting Alfa’s position with the Fiat Group and the type of customers the cars were aimed at. Included in the changes was a new multilink rear suspension instead of the trailing arms as used on the other cars that used this platform. The front suspension and drivetrains were also taken from the larger Alfa Romeo 155 (which was built of the Fiat Type Three platform for the trainspotters out there). Bodywork for both of the new cars was the work of Enrico Fumia at Pinninfarina, in collaboration with the Alfa Romeo Styling Centre. The earlier cars carry small Pinninfarina badges on their flanks, in honour of the designer. When launched, the Spider and GTV were available with either a 2.0-litre Twin Spark “4” or one of two V6 units. The Spider received a 2.0-litre V6 turbo whereas the GTV made do with a 3.0-litre 12 valve non-turbo V6 engine. 1997 saw a mild “Phase 1” upgrade to both cars, with the 3.0 V6 now having 24 valves. A year later a more significant “Phase 2” upgrade was made across the range. The most striking change was to the interior, with the dashboard and centre console being brought much more up to date. Changes were made to the engines, including the offering of a smaller 1.8-litre version of the Twin Spark “4”. The “Phase 2” cars carried through form 1998 until the final upgrade when the face-lifted versions appeared in 2003. During the Phase 2’s life, production moved from Alfa’s historic Arese factory on the outskirts of Milan to Pinninfarina’s plant in Turin. The Spider/GTV therefore became the last Alfas to come from the famous Arese buildings. This model is of a Phase 2 Spider with the 1.8 TS engine. It is as close as I can get to my 1:1. The car in my garage is silver rather than grey metallic but does share the red interior with the model. My car also has the 2.0 TS engine and being from 2001 it is one of the later Pinninfarina built vehicles – these cars have larger “Pinninfarina” badges on the sides. Until Spark or Minichamps decide to do one of these pre-facelift Spiders, this older Solidio will do me. Solido – Red Tin Box 1998 Alfa Romeo 916 Spider 1.8 TS

That is indeed a must have. It's quite good given its age, but I get that as an owner you want the best model available. Norev did the Spider in 1:43 but AFAIK in red only. As you know this same model is in my collection (albeit in green) and I like it because it's a friendly old thing.

As Tom said, its a must have to go with your 1:1. I'm surprised no one has done one in silver as its always been a popular colour for Alfa's. I had the metallic yellow version of this (in the promo tin can) in a past life and always thought it was a pleasing model.

All it needs is a Mini Martin and it will be complete.

Nice add Martin, I've shared the frustration of having a model being close to a 1/1 in the garage but not exact. Usually for me though its been RHD vs LHD. 😀 A nice addition all the same. How are you getting on with your new car?
