This weekend was the Portland All British Field Meet, which is the largest all British car show in the US with over 700 cars. Now in its 45th year, it is for many of us the final show of the year. Several years ago they started running the show in conjunction with vintage and historic racing, so for folks like me, its a double whammy of fun! This year was a bit different, as wildfire smoke from fires burning in our state and California caused the skies to be dark and everything take on a strange muted glow. While these photos look overcast with rain clouds, it was actually 93F (34C) out. Fortunately the air quality was moderate thanks to a good breeze. Here are some random photos. I intended to take more, but it seems every time I start out I get involved in a conversation and forget about the photos. By the time I finished watching the racing, many cars had already left due to the weather. A very fast Elva. Unfortunately the Lotus 11 (13?) developed a problem in morning practice and didn't race. The Cooper Monaco did and held its own admirably. Sprites always loo happy! This 4C turns out to be a recent acquisition of a friend of mine. I later sat in it. The fit is not good. They may race a Camero, but have better street car tastes. This is a bit of a rare duck. Its a 2800 CS which was a Schnitzer team car they converted to CSL body work. It is a quick car and is raced all over the USA. While I am not a big Corvette fan, I remember this car from its Trans-Am days in the 70's. Its now nicely restored and probably faster than it ever was. My photo safari kind of ended in the Jaguar section. This F-Type might be coming up for sale and I might have to buy it. These cars belong to friends. They all race in the same class and have some nice dices with each other. Although the GTV isn't as fast, its my favorite of the trio.

What a nice report from the NW Jerry! I'm thinking you couldn't pull yourself away from the paddock and would not be surprised if you gained some new inspiration for future works of scale? So the 4C didn't fit you well? Have you ever sat in a Lotus Elise or Exige? Wondering how they compare for space? Spotted a few X350s in attendance...if I was still in my old place and didn't have a house to build AND the world economy wasn't upside down, I might just have to buy one Let us know if you pull the trigger on an F-type. For what it's worth, I think you already have the prettier of the 2 cars So thankful that you shared your experiences with everyone and that the air wasn't as thick as the skies appeared!

Thanks, glad you liked it. I didn't fit the Elise either. Too wide at the shoulder and feet. Getting in and out wasn't easy for me either.

The Lancia is indeed a treat Tom. I also enjoyed seeing the older Opel and DAF trucks. We of course had plenty of Fords and Bedfords over this way, but the Opels and DAFs were never seen here. Jerry, you do have some quality friends I see . The BMWs are highlights for me here. I have managed to get into (and out of) a 4C - I am someone who avoids "slim-fit" clothes - and while it fit like a glove, it wasn't the most glamourous entry and exit I have ever made. I'm pretty sure I was on all-fours at some stage of the process!! It was worth it though.

Julio, your photos are no less interesting or valuable than anyone else's display! What fun to see different scenery. Truth be told, the scenery in some ways is not much different than some parts of South Florida since the climate is a bit similar there (probably just more humidity on this side To the cars, many exciting rides! I love the '70s blue LTD 2 Door in blue! The AMCs are all good. That yellow Ford custom huge pickup monster! Beautiful limestone colored Bluebird. Yellow-creme Matador. The '77-'78 Aspen Coupe with the big motor - I think that gen of Mopar was a very well-styled and looks sharp today, especially in a rarer trim like you've shown. An acquaintance in High School had one so I spent some time in one, even though his was completely worn out at 9 years old (78 model in 1987). Keep sharing them gents! I need to be on the lookout for some shows in these parts? Only one I ever think to attend in the Amelia Island Concours, yet there must be many more?

I'll add a few photos from a show that I went to yesterday. That said I wished that I had not wasted my time and fuel as it was very poorly promoted and attended which is sad as in its heyday the show (called Notts Americana) was huge. Hopefully it will get better in the future. No idea who owns this old Impala (ahem). In the background you can see most of the vehicles in attendance. Yep it was that bad. This 1968 Satellite was slightly shabby but very sound and original, has a 383ci V8/auto combo. I like the black cop wheels and poverty hubcaps look. This 1959 Dodge Custom Royal was very nice but didn't stay very long, I like these a lot. The rather more restrained 1959 Edsel although I prefer the wilder 1958 version. I had a similar F100 back in the 80's although the patina on mine was real and not fake. I just don't understand why you would spend a lot of money on a vehicle only to make it look crappy. A 57 Chevy powered by a 535ci Ford V8? Yep no wonder it's called what it is. Sounded nice but needs a new motor. Very nice 1972 Olds 442 but sadly it doesn't have a 400 or 455 motor, just a 350. Not sure if you could get the bigger engines in 1972 though. Last but the best car there a magnificent 1941 Cadillac convertible, the fellow had only had it for three weeks. Wish he had shut the bonnet and boot though. Nice photos Julio and Jerry, excellent events.

Shame that the turnout was so disappointing, because there are some lovely cars in your pictures. Also not a fan of open bonnets and bootlids and I despise fake patina.

Nice photos Julio and Paul! I like small car shows. One, I am assured of seeing all the cars, but also sometimes the small intimate shows have been the most fun. The bikes on the plaza and close to the cars would make me nervous though! I love your Impala Paul!
