1967 Tasman Series This photo on a Jim Clark Facebook page prompted me to concentrate on his Tasman cars. Ron is working on his 1968 Gold Leaf car so I decided to sort out the 1967 Lotus 33 car. I’ve picked up an SMTS kit in their ongoing sale and have spoken to Scott about the decals. We realised that we needed his name on the side as was normal in the Tasman races. We weren’t sure what colour the name was. We had some with the kit but they are blue and only have CLARK, not J. CLARK. I’m thinking that the lettering would have been black as in other years of those races. Any input especially from Antipodean members would be handy.

Hi Stewart
I'm going to go with Black rather than Blue. The excellent book "Tasman Cup 1964-1975" doesn't have a definitive image of car #6 in Team Lotus colours that confirms it either way (although the name still looks to be in black) bit the name when the car switched to Gold Leaf colours of very much black. This can be confirmed by checking the colour of the name against the blue in the traditional "Ford" logo - the name is black, the logo is blue.
I would also suggest that the colour photo you have posted is probably from one of the NZ races. The ratio of English cars to Australian ones on the spectator banks would point to this. IN Australia at that time the banks would have been filled with Holdens and Falcons with a few VWs thrown in for good measure, rather than the plethora of Austins, Morris', and Ford Zephyrs.

Thanks Martin, Nice detective work! The photo was indeed taken at the second race at Levin in NZ. Black is seeming to be the answer as is possibly confirmed by the photo below. This image also suggests that the name on that sticker was actually JIM CLARK. Any further input would be appreciated.

I was going to comment on this Stewart. At least in 1965 and 1966, "Jim Clark" seemed more common than "J. Clark", though its harder to find photos for 1967. This is from 1966: There seems to have been a wide variety of styles race by race including: Jim Clark Jim CLARK JIM CLARK

Good stuff Ian. I assume that the car is the Lotus 39 which I hope to replicate one day. Other styles were… CLARK J.CLARK

Hi Philip/Eric I think we’ve met on one of those JC Facebook sites. I like your reasoning re the name tags. btw to place images on here you need to use a third party such as Imgur which I use, pretty good and not too pricey. Link below. imgur.comAny more help lmk

Hi Stewart,
Yes that's right, take a look today in Lotus Models Collection, if you want a "What could have been" model to add to your Jim Clark collection, Tecnomodel have released the exact car he would have shared with Graham Hill in 1/43.

I assume it's modelled after one of the Australian races - the "Lotus Ford Australia" on the nose is a bit of a giveaway. When I saw the car it was still green/Yellow .....

It would certainly seem that the 1968 car was still in traditional Lotus green and yellow for the NZ GP and maybe only went Gold Leaf for the Australian races.
