As I mentioned in “World Champions” I have decided to create a Jim Clark collection similar to my Stirling Moss collection with my “Scottish Drivers” as a starting point. More of that later. I was amused to see several offerings of him driving a Gold Leaf Lotus such as below.. Obviously this is trying to cash in on the name as this was patently never driven by Clark, probably Hill. However he did drive a Gold Leaf 49T car in the 1968 Tasman series as below.. I am keen to get a model of that Lotus and would appreciate any advice. Maybe SMTS do one?

Thanks Paul. I just bought their 1/43 decals for £5 and will probably get an SMTS kit to put them on to celebrate his last victories in 1968 before that ill fated Hockenheim race.

Another new addition LOTUS ELITE CLIMAX Str 4 1216cc JIM CLARK 1958 BRANDS HATCH BOXING DAY MEET 2nd (to Colin Chapman) SPARK S8215 This is when Chapman probably first became aware of Jim Clark as he only got past him on the last lap as they came up on back markers. Clark had never raced at Brands before. The photo below shows Clark leading him into Bottom Bend.

Another view of the addition. I have re-read Eric Dymock’s insightful book whilst planning this collection but find it lacking in historical race detail. I wonder if there is something out there akin to the Moss books such as “All My Races” which could supply more info.

The Lotus looks great. I have BRG version from Spark driven by Jim Clark at Le Mans in 1959. My favourite Clark model is his 1960 'Border Reivers' Le Mans Aston Martin in dark blue. Have you managed to track down one of these?

Arrived today from Canada More details to follow. LOTUS 23 FORD COSWORTH Str 4 1500cc DOHC JIM CLARK 1962 NURBURGRING 1000km DNF MIMODELS/SMTS The following is from Wikipedia Debut at the Nürburgring The debut of the 23 was at the Nordschleife in May 1962. The tiny 100 bhp (70 kW) Lotus 23 with the newly developed Cosworth Mk.X 1.5 litre based on the Lotus TwinCam engine shot away from the field of Porsches, Aston Martins and Ferraris with Jim Clark at the wheel in the rain. Even though some cars had four times the power of the Lotus, Clark was 27 seconds ahead of Dan Gurney's Porsche after the first lap in the wet. Extending his lead on each lap until the track dried, Clark was overcome by exhaust fumes from a damaged exhaust manifold on lap 12 and crashed out.
