Based on the other models you’ve shown previously Stewart, that looks like it’s the star of the show.

Sweet! Not one of Lotus most successful efforts, but a slot car I had back in the mid-60's endeared me to those cars. Excellent add!

As good at least as a Spark model.

I had to buy this one recently on eBay because I had somewhat hastily sold it out of my Scottish Drivers collection LOTUS 25 CLIMAX FWMV 1.5L V8 JIM CLARK 1962 ZANDVOORT 9th SPARK S1616 I had always had a bit of a problem with this particular model regarding the wheels. Most Lotus wobbly wheels seem to have been classically yellow, as these next images of the debut of the Lotus 25 at the 1962 Dutch GP show. However this next well provenanced photo shows the car with black wheels, as per the Spark model. Maybe practise and race photos. Any ideas?

There are definitely several pictures of the Lotus with black wheels, but what about this picture of Clark's Lotus at Zandvoort the previous year in 1961 with both yellow and black wheels. I think this is the best indication that Lotus used both and neither yellow nor black was more correct than the other.

Further to that Ian, I have since found this picture of his teammate, Trevor Taylor, at the same 1962 Zandvoort race with yellow fronts and black rears. Taylor in a Lotus 24 finished second to Graham Hill’s BRM. What wheels Jim Clark actually used in the race may never be revealed but I’m happy to put the model into the cabinet!

Felday 4 BRMAn interesting addition which is covered very well by this Bonhams link. www.bonhams.com/auction/21906/lot/306/the-ex-jim-clark-1966-guards-trophy-race-peter-westbury-mac-daghorn1966-felday-brm-4-group-7-sports-racing-prototype/The actual MEA model is a little disappointing and very expensive. GP models describe the maker very honestly and well on their website. “About MEA Kit 43 An interesting range initially specialising in 1:43 motorcycles. The nature of the subjects and the size of many of the parts mean that these are best suited to those with good eyesight! Casting quality can be variable and this combined with the size puts them firmly in the 'for the experienced modeller' category. Alongside the bikes are a number of Dakar raid subjects and early Lotus race cars, again offered as kits and hand builts. SPL series are hand built only and concentrate on very unusual race cars. Build quality is variable, basic and nowhere near the class leaders. They are usually presented in recycled Spark cases. Very interesting subject matter though. Made in France.” As I say things like the fit of the clear parts, paint on the tyres, tyre decals etc are disappointing but overall a worthy addition.

It can be frustrating when some of these high priced 'artisan' models fail to deliver the expected quality. What annoys me is the failure of the model maker to undertake the simplest of tasks, like running a bit of sandpaper around the wheelarches to remove the excess flashing, filling the bubbles in the bodywork or sanding out a few bumps.
That said, I think the model is unusual and obscure enough to warrant putting up with the imperfections.
