Sometimes I go through old pictures of me and my parents, and those images gave me the idea for this thread. My father's first car was a Volkwagen Beetle, but I dont have any image of it. Then, by mid 1960's when I was born, he bought a Simca Aronde. The Aronde Tiny 2 year old me sitting on top of the Aronde... Then my father turned to England and had two Vauxhall Viva's... they were relatively comfortable, slow and not adequate to mediterranean hot weather! I tried to force him to buy the elegant Vauxhall Firenza, but no way. Good memories, though.

My childhood cars were from a couple of decades earlier! Family transport when I was a pre-teen was this 1936 Lagonda Rapier: My maternal grandparents ran this 1937 Austin Big Seven, which they had owned virtually from new - it was the Mann Egerton demonstrator: My paternal grandparents had this Armstrong Siddeley, which featured in a number of family camping holidays:

Excellent subject! Let me share my pics, enjoy, it is free! This is me (the baby one). I guess this is 1964. Sometime later, you can enjoy this suburban picnic scene. I am the standing baby, the man is my father and the sitting woman is my mother. Please note the furniture, taken from the 2CV. May be this is the same day, you can note the bus below. Gaucho Man

When my mother passed away my brother found some photos and there are three of my father's cars among them, not great quality as they were taken in the 1950s and 60s. Hopefully my brother may find more at a later date. Excellent taste in your father buying Vivas cmmf (sorry I do not know your name), I had three HB and two HC saloons, one of the HC's was red too. My father's circa 1938 Morris 10 (I think), I can remember it breaking down on a foggy damp winter night! After a succession of pre-war Morris cars that would inevitably 'fail to proceed' my father followed my uncle's lead in buying a 1959 Ford Anglia 100E, this would be in 1961. The Anglia is behind my uncle's Popular, it served us faithfully for a couple of years until it was traded in for a new Cortina in late 1963. Last photo is in I guess 1967 with a very skinny 12yo me standing behind my father's 1966 Ford Zephyr 4 Mk3, we were on holiday probably on the south coast of England

Great idea for a thread! This is me, my maternal grandmother and my mother, and behind us is my mother’s dark blue Volvo, the first car I ever rode in! I’m the oldest child, my mother is the one on the right. The car was my paternal grandfather’s 1962 Ford Galaxie. This is me, a dear cousin and my father, with my mother’s Mercedes. This is me with the same cousin as the other photo and my father’s Volkswagen. That’s me on the right with the second, and last, Volkswagen that my father ever owned. I have many other photos of my parents, grandparents and even one of one of my great grandmothers with cars but, since I’m not in those photos I decided not to post them now. I’ll post them later and maybe someone might help me identify a couple of those old cars! Edit: I have 1:43 models of the Volvo, the Mercedes and the Volkswagen. And, I would love to have one of the Galaxie (a Goldvarg model would be perfect)!

Lovely photos Julio, must bring back great memories. Oh I owned a 1962 Country Sedan wagon and a 1963 Galaxie sedan. No VWs though, that would be a step too far

My paternal grandmother’s car at that time was a 1962 Ford Country Sedan, in a slightly different shade of blue with a white top. There’s an old family movie of my grandparents where it appears, I’ll try to take a photo the next time I see that movie!

I didn't dislike the Vivas, but I remember a couple of summers that they caused some trouble and boiling noise during the 40° degrees summers we have here in Portugal...

Lovely photos Julio. It’s interesting that your mum drove nicer cars than your dad!
It’s a bit like that at our place. My wife drives the Alfa and I get to take the bus!
