That same birthday I received these two books from two of my relatives. They were my first car books in Spanish… 16This one came from the same aunt that gave me my Rolls-Royce book a year before. She didn’t know that I wasn’t too much of a race car fan. So, this book has remained closed most of the last 44 years… Isn’t it funny that when people know of your love of cars they immediately assume that you like race cars too! i guess that I was the slightly odd kid that didn’t like race cars, dragsters, hot rods, etc. 17And, an uncle and his wife gave me this one. Unfortunately, it was exactly the same book that I already had, but in Spanish! The good thing is that I finally was able to read the whole story behind the cars that had interested me in the English version of this book!

Julio, I'm impressed that you have kept all the R&T Buyers Guides all these years. I am even more impressed with your Automobile Quarterly collection! Those are great books of which I only have a handful. What was the last volume number? Finally, I also have Stein's book. Bought it at the same time as the Collector Cars book. Interesting how it's made its way to different parts of the world. 😀

During the early to mid 80s, while attending college, I bought lots of regular car magazines, including Road & Track, Motor Trend and Car & Driver. Unfortunately, I gave most of them away during the mid 90s. These guides were among the few ones that I kept from those days! Volume 52, Number 1, was the last Automobile Quarterly issue ever published (in 2012). I have them all, up to Volume 47, so I still have a few more to find…

These three I recall... Yes, they're all quality books. They're among the first books that I bought for myself. Mostly at a used-book chain store where I loved to browse for hours. Sometimes I bought entire collections that people had traded in.

There is a bookstore like that in Texas, it sells used and also out of print books. I love going there every time I visit my cousin in Austin and, I’ve found great books and many amazing deals there!

Julio, I have a couple of the books you have in Spanish, in English. That’s cool! The one on the right is the one that I have both in English and in Spanish! We were buying the very same books!

In February of 1978 I found these two at Sandi’s…I was getting addicted to that store! 18Interesting book with a brief yearly description and original factory photos of most of the cars available during that fabulous decade. 19The continuation of the previous book, just as interesting and definitely very enjoyable!

These remind me that next time I'm at an autojumble I should lookout for the British Cars series and the American Cars series books.

I don't think I have ever run across those before because I know I would have bought them if I saw them.

I bought these during Easter vacation, in late March of 1978 in Texas. 20Bought in San Antonio, this is the English language 1977 edition of an Italian book from 1970, which already looked a bit old when I bought it, but at that time it seemed interesting and had lots of photos of unusual cars. I would hardly call this a beautiful or an exciting book (it has far too many photos of veteran and early vintage cars, for my taste) but, it’s kind of fun to browse since it has this informative sub chapters with lots of varied things ranging from specific parts of the car, like the brakes or the headlights, to the oil industry or to plastics in cars! 21This was the book that was out of stock when my birthday presents were ordered a couple of months before and, I clearly remember how excited I was when I found it at a B. Dalton Booksellers store at the Houston Galleria shopping mall. It had all the good things that I already associated with the Dalton Watson series! Besides, I’ve always been a Jaguar fan and this was my first book on that marque! 22Bought the same day and at the same place as the Jaguar book above, and also from the Dalton Watson series, I’d say that this one proved to be even better! It’s an extremely enjoyable book, with nice old photos of truly wonderful and pretty unusual cars!

During the Summer of 1978, I went to Europe for the first time. And, since it at that time it was still possible to travel without so many luggage restrictions as we have today, I was able to bring home some gifts, a few souvenirs, 7 diecast models and these two books: 23Finally, a book that had nothing but cars from the so called classic era, filled with great photos and beautiful illustrations! I bought it in Rome, at a bookstore across the famous Piazza di Spagna! This was my first book in Italian. That very same day, but a couple of blocks away, I bought my first Rio models! 24While at London, I really wanted to go to Harrod’s (remember, I was just a 16 year old tourist)! So, the last day there, I boarded the Tube to Knightsbridge Station and visited that famous store. I wanted to find models but I didn’t, but found their bookstore instead. I bought this wonderful book there!
