I've just finished reading my recently purchased 'Bertone' Masterpieces of Design'. Great photos and basic but lightweight text having been translated from the original Italian into English. However it's now making me wonder whether to invest in the other books in this series?
Also a long time friend (10 years older than me) and classic car fan died in December. In 40 years I knew him I would never have guessed that his library of car books was as extensive as it is. He was as interested in the personalities and founders of car companies as in the product of their imagination in building up large corporations or running small manufacturers like Morgan etc,.
We had some overlap in our choices and occasionally loaned some books to each other. I borrowed his book on the life and products of Virgil Exner as we'd discussed the man's career more than once. We attended a talk given by Sir John Egan who 'saved' Jaguar. I bought his book and my friend borrowed it, returning it to me a few months later.
American cars always appealed to him and he had a late 70s Buick which is rusting away and not turned a wheel in forty years. He'd debated installing a LPG conversion in to it but sadly he never got round to doing it.
Many of the books have been acquired on his visits to Autojumbles. I'm hoping that when his estate has been settled I'll be able to make an offer for some of his library.

I’m glad to know that your opinion about the Bertone, book from the Masterpieces of Design series, is similar to mine. Having bought many of those books, except the ones about Pininfarina and Giugiaro, I’d say the ones I liked most were the ones on Carrozeria Touring and Vignale. I was expecting a lot more from the others, especially from the Bertone book!

Yesterday I was in a thrift store I don’t visit often. I found this book, in as-new shape, published in '05, for EUR 1.95. It's very nicely designed and printed and it has a good history of the marque including their concepts. Glad that I didn't leave it there.

Thanks gents! Not something I'd have normally bought, but at that price I could always give it away. It's a pleasant surprise however. I was looking for a book to lend to a friend and found two more I hadn't shown to you. In German, the story of the world famous Bugatti collection and how it stopped being privately owned. I must reread this one as it's been years Our national pride, DAF, and its history The history of Citroen in The Netherlands

Great titles Tom. Who would have ever thought there was a book as specific the Dutch Citroens?

There are lots of fanatical Citroen lovers here Brooks, there's even a Dutch magazine about classic Citroens. There are interesting books about the history of the 2CV and of the DS in NL too.

Nice, varied bunch of books! The one about the Schlumpf collection looks particularly interesting!

It's been years since I've last read it, but I recall it being an interesting story indeed. These are not really books as such, but in the 1970s Renault had the idea to hand out brochures for the entire line to anyone interested. Must’ve cost them a fortune. These were 200+ page things in full colour showing not only the models but also marque history, racing, development and production. Great to look at now, I have four of them. Apparently they even did a second 3dition in '78.

They are, Julio. Incredibly dated which adds to the fun. Found this at the thrift store for EUR 2, German language
