Lotus Cortinas …..cont.
Having lauded the Atlas version of the Lotus Cortina with its matt black grille I now realise that again I spoke too soon! As can be seen below, the grille surround is Ermine White body colour, not chrome as it should be!
I’m hoping this handy pen will put that right. Wish me luck.

Those pens are excellent- use them myself. Best chrome pen on the market

Stewart I don't know if you have Jim Clark's first race car in your collection? I just read an article on his first race in his friend Ian Scott-Watson's DKW Sonderklasse (finished last). Thought you might be interested in these images. Article is here, but you may need a subscription to view. velocetoday.com/jim-clarks-first-race/ I know Schuco makes a model of the DKW. Not sure of color. Black? Dark green?

Jim Clark DKW 3=6As mentioned before Ron and I decided to replicate an early speed trial outing of the DKW since the car then ran with bumpers and hubcaps. DKW SONDERCLASSE 3=6 DKW Str 3 TWO STROKE 896cc JIM CLARK 1956 BRUNTON BEADNELL SPEED TRIALS SCHUCO We might well eventually look to produce his first race car as Jerry suggests but that would mean sorting out the bumpers and hubcaps. For this one we swapped to RHD, painted the steering wheel white, radio aerial, RH mirror, #15 and reg plates.

Thanks Chaps, But already realised I’ve missed a couple of details! looks like there’s a chrome strip along the sill and a chrome “splashguard”? Back to the drawing board for me and Ron in the pursuit of authenticity.

I imagine the DKW would have been a fairly rare sight in the UK even in those days Nice work on the conversion.

The Lotus 23 is also one of my favourites Stewart. It was towed to Le Mans on a trailer behind a Ford Thames van from the Lotus works: Oxford Diecast made this model of the Lotus van a few years ago which makes a nice pairing with Lotus if you can find one. Getting there Ian, Lotus Thames van auction ends today.

Hope you get the van Stewart, they will make a nice pairing! Got the van Jerry and also sourced a roof rack. Need to get the reg. plates sorted (141 KKM) and remodel the back of the trailer slightly.
