Nice 3=6. Looking forward to your conversion. That’s very nice, Stewart! Bit tricky here. The obvious temptation is to replicate his first ever race which was at Crimond on June 16th 1956 in Ian Scott Watson’s car. As shown below. This significant event is well covered by the article below. jimclarktrust.com/news/on-this-day-16-june-1956-jim-clark-went-for-a-day-at-the-races/However it would appear that after driving the car to the circuit the front and rear bumpers were removed for the actual race. That doesn’t look to be easily done with the Schuco model. Earlier in the year Jim Clark had driven the car at an event at Brunton Beadnell as covered in the article below. I am confident that the photo below depicts that event so I will swap to RHD, get the reg plate sorted and stick a #15 in the windscreen. Ron and I may one day look to create the Crimond car but there is quite a bit on at the moment.

Stewart With ref to the Jim Clark Sunbeam Mk3, I have looked in this book where it lists every Mk3 chassis with its body colour and registration number. Out of the hundreds listed it is incomplete, there are around 25 missing of which Jim Clarks BSH 510 is one of them. So, absolutely no help in establishing the colour. DSCN3414 aaI originally thought that the car might have be green. But I think now its likely to be black or gunmetal. I had a Somerville/Promod Mk3 kit sitting around here for ages so I have finished mine in gunmetal. If there is ever a time when we find the exact colour, I will strip it and repaint it. DSCN3413 aaSomerville kits always have a nice feel and shape to them. As ever fitting the bumpers, axles and chassis is a bit of a challenge on this kit. Chris

You might be interested to know Stewart that Healey Cornish Cider Farm healeyscyder.co.uk/ in Truro was started by Donald's grandson David. I was fortunate to have been involved with Healeys while Donald was still alive and the opportunity to meet him several times. He had a mind that never stopped, always was curious and asked a lot of intelligent questions. I quite often enjoy a drop of Healeys “Cornish Gold” at my local in Portreath. Cheers Jerry!

Jim Clark ….Lotus Cortinas. This is going to be quite a project. As well as his obvious Formula One achievements Jim Clark had memorable success with the iconic Ford Lotus Cortina MkI which he raced and rallied in 1963, 64, 65 and 1966. I have started the collection and am being assisted with advice and modelling by fellow member Ron.
1964 Jim Clark won the BRSCC British Saloon Car Championship in this year. A link to the best website is included below and shows how dominant the combination was.

I bought this Minichamps model back in 2004 (400 648257) and had always believed it to be an accurate replica of his car that won the Crystal Palace round.
However I was wrong as this photo shows.
The radiator grille should be black (with a chrome surround) not all chrome as rendered by Minichamps.

Stewart, what you have is Jim Clark's car from the 1965 round, not 1964. Minichamps also did the 1964 separately, which is 400 648257: www.ebay.com.au/itm/305069377832Minchamps codes follow a specific numbering format: - the first three letters (in this case '400' but sometimes '430') indicate that its a 1:43 model. - the next two numbers (in this case '64' or '65') indicates the year. - the next two numbers (in this case '82) indicates the racing series. - finally, the last two numbers for race cars indicate the race number the car carries. Hence, by looking at the code you can tell relatively quickly which version of a car you are looking at. I'm not sure if Clark's '65 car had a different grill to the '64 car, and it did whether Minichamps '64 car has a more accurate grill, but it's somewhere to start.

Thanks Ian but it is the 1964 car that I have. I mistyped the model number in my post. I have got 400 648257 and the grille is wrong. Sorry for the confusion. I googled 400 658257 and it came up with nothing. I don’t believe Minichamps have done a 1965 car and if they did it would have to of had the ”Aerflow” wide grille.

Edited: Auto Art did a 1/18 scale model of this car and it is labeled as the 1964 Crystal Palace winner. It has the black on the hood, but a different grille. I came across this image which claims it to be 1964, which looks to be #57, with black on front of the bonnett/hood. Your picture from Crystal Palace shows the black stripe, different grille than your model. Was this the style they changed to in late 1964? www.thelotusforums.com/latest-news/lotus-cars-news/3-lotus-cortinas-confirmed-for-ctl-festival/I came across this website after my initial post. It has a cover of Ford Times from Sept. 1964 with a painting of Jim Clark in his Cortina. Different race, but given the black on the bonnet and lead times required for magazine production then, couldn't have been too much after the Crystal Palace race. www.lotuscortinainfo.com/?page_id=1364There are more pictures of the Lotus at Crystal Palace here. All show it had the black stripe. www.lotuscortinainfo.com/?page_id=3799My guess is that Minichamps used an older version of the Cortina that they had produced and dressed it up as the 1964 car. I say this, because when I was converting the models they made with no numbers to Group 44 cars from 1966, the grilles were wrong and from earlier production. So, I think the grille is slightly off, but the black stripe is correct on your model. Sorry for the ramble.

Jim Clark ….Lotus Cortinas.1964…cont. Thanks Ian and Jerry. I think we’re agreed that Minichamps have got this wrong and in fact the Atlas model (below) that I acquired since has got the grille correct.
However they too have messed up in that the ventilation louvres on the rear pillar are from the 1965 Aerflow Lotus Cortinas, at least Minichamps got that right!
Incidentally that Atlas model was acquired as a donor car for his 1963 Snetterton entry; more of that later.
Ford were keen to improve their racing credentials in the States during 1964 and who better to front their efforts than the reigning World Champion. They used the works 1963 cars which had been shipped Stateside at the end of the season.

I love a Lotus Cortina so a big thumbs up from me Cheers Paul and Tom, lots more to come. Meanwhile this is obviously the model that Minichamps lazily used to make their shameful version of Jim Clark’s 1964 car. 400 648219 Think how many have bought the #57 model in good faith!

Good thing that the dash is symmetrical without an instrument binnacle jutting out on top.
