Unfortunately Paul as I have experienced before links to their website don’t work as this screenshot shows. I will ask Andre about it next week.

This is the latest picture of the cabinet which still has some lingering unsold Lotus cars on the top shelves. Whilst compiling my 1/43 Jim Clark collection the go-to reference book has been Graham Gauld’s excellent “Jim Clark Remembered”. However I recently found what I believe to be an uncharacteristic error. I had noticed in the appendix, where Graham has compiled the best record of his events that I have found, that he lists Jim Clark as having raced the Border Reivers DBR1 at Silverstone in 1962 as per the photo. I was excited at the prospect of adding another car to the collection and decided to check it out and determine the race number. There is no mention of that outing on the dependable Racing Sports Cars website so I bought an original programme quite cheaply to check. There is no entry for Jim Clark in the relevant race nor have I found any evidence elsewhere. I will have to be content with the 1960 and 1961 Astons. This research has however turned up another sparsely documented car that I can add to the collection. More later.

Great collection Stewart! Uncharacteristic of Graham to make a mistake like that. It's possible Clark was a late entry and didn't make the printed program. I will email him with the question and see what he says.

I will email him with the question and see what he says. Uncharacteristic indeed Jerry, but as he says in the book the appendix listing his outings was difficult to compile since, unlike Stirling Moss, I don’t think Jim Clark kept meticulous records of every event. I think also that in 1962 he was concentrating on single seat racing for Lotus and only raced a DB4 that day for John Ogier since he was there that day for the International Trophy race in which he raced a Lotus 24 and finished second behind Graham Hill in his BRM. Please see also my response to Ian’s post re that race meeting. This is a further edit re the above. The following is a screenshot from an official Border Reivers website which shows that their race team was disbanded by the end of the 1961 season so Jim Clark would not have raced for them in 1962

Further to my previous post here is further evidence that the Reivers DBR1 was up for sale at the end of 1961

Stewart, I will PM you Graham's email address. I'm sure he won't mind the question and give any clarification of facts, history and if he was indeed mistaken.

Goggomobil In 1957 during the petrol rationing occasioned by the Suez crisis Ian Scott-Watson bought himself an economical German micro-car, the Gaz Goggomobil. As a motor sport fan he could not resist competing with it and he and his protege, Jim Clark took part in the MG car club speed trials as the following photos show.
I had to have one in the collection obviously. As usual I roped Ron into the project. We bought a Schuco model and proceeded on the basis of the photos above and also those of a “tribute” car as below.
However I remembered being asked, possibly on this forum, what colour it should be and decided to check with Graham Gauld to whom I had recently been introduced by Jerry. No way was it blue, and he came up with this as his best recollection of the colour.
Back to the drawing board! Also I realised that the car had a roll back sunroof which will have to be replicated, either open or closed. I do vaguely remember seeing a photo of that particular Goggomobil in that colour possibly in a museum or as a model in a collection. Any ideas Chaps?

Stewart, as you may have already found in your research, there is a reproduction of the car in beige/sand too, but it might be a shade lighter than what Graham proposed. Someone by the name of Alan Redpath has already had a go at modelling the Gogomobile too, but he missed the sunroof. I feel like you and Alan need to connect and share notes. You must be the only two people in the world with a 1:43 Jim Clarke Gogomobile!

Thanks Ian, I thought you might come up with the goods, that’s exactly the photo that I remember. Is it from the Hockenheim museum? I had also found other photos of Alan’s model which I believe is a slot car. After trawling through Goggomobil images and further emails to Graham I am probably going with the shade below. I won’t try and replicate the open sunroof but use a slightly different shaded decal to depict it. The photo above is of a different model Goggomobil obviously but I think that’s the same shade.
