The 1975 Spanish Grand Prix was memorable for mostly the wrong reasons, the driver's strike, the barrier fixing as they were not bolted together properly (even Ken Tyrrell was out on circuit with his spanner), the threat of car seizure by the Police and Rolf Stommelmen's crash which killed 4 people and badly injured him. However, there was one bright note and that was Lella Lombardi becoming the first woman and so far only woman to score F1 championship points due to her running in 6th place from 24th on the grid when the race was stopped, albeit 2 laps down and after 16 others had retired for various reasons prior to the stoppage. This takes nothing away from Lombardi as in her 12 starts in F1 she would retire 5 times, and finish in the top 10 twice and the top 20 5 times and would to compete in Sports Cars & NASCAR scoring creditable finishes including winning the 6 Hours of Vallelunga in 1979. She retired from motorsport in 1988.

Great piece of F1 history Andy. I'm sure it was an easy choice.

Crackerjack way to start the year. I need a coffee now. I thought so too Martin. You got the subliminal message then Great model and even BETTER story about another female driver I knew nothing about! Welcome to 2023 Andy! Thanks BB A very capable driver indeed who whilst only scoring once in F1 did very well in what was more or less an all male game at the time
That is excellent, both car (airbox!) and back story. Couldn't agree more Tom Airbox? I thought that's where the beans went Cheers Paul Great piece of F1 history Andy. I'm sure it was an easy choice. Didn't even pause to think about it Ian and agreed it is a great piece of F1 history so had to come here

Scuderia Serenissima was the racing team formed by Count Volpi in the early 60s and would initially race Ferraris however once he became involved with ATS, Ferrari refused to sell him any more cars, and so he resorted to using other marques and developing his own cars. Initially a GT car was developed known as the 308V of which only 1 was produced in addition to two prototypes before an open version was developed known as the Spyder. Two were built and one was entered into Le Mans 1966 in the hands of Jean-Claude Sauer & Jean de Mortemart who qualified 43rd. They managed 40 laps before the gearbox failed when they were running in 44th and after the race Count Volpi took the car home and locked it in his garage where it remained untouched until 2019 when it was brought back out just as it finished Le Mans in 1966. It was auctioned at Retromobile that year for a little over $4.6m

What a graceful design. Strong hints of Ferrari of course. Almost surprised it didn't sell for even more in 2019! Post-pandemic inflation has probably driven that number up...
