I’ve been thinking about starting this thread for quite a while because I often wonder how it’s like where you guys live. So, let’s show photos of the city where we live. I live in Guadalajara, Mexico. I took these photos today, during my noon bike ride around downtown. I hope you like them! The Cathedral Teatro Degollado (Degollado Theater) Escuela de Música (School of Music) San Agustín (Saint Augustine) San José (Saint Joseph) El divino redentor -The only Presbiterian church in town!- La casa de los perros (the house of the dogs) -now it’s a museum and it’s supposedly haunted- Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe (Sanctuary of Our Lady of Guadalupe) San Francisco (Saint Francis) Capilla de Nuestra Señora de Aranzazú (Chapel of Our Lady of Aranzazu) -its interior is absolutely magnificent- Templo Expiatorio -the largest NeoGothic church in Mexico- Museo de las Artes (Art Museum) -formerly the University of Guadalajara- 🙂

Beautiful. I cannot compare as the city I live in has only existed as such for slightly less time than I have been alive. We do have some history, we were a territory and then a township but we have only been a city since the early 60's. Our most famous resident would have to be former US President James Garfield, his estate is now a National Historic site. Other than some nice parks, lots of shopping and car dealers, that is about it.

In complete contrast to Julio, I live in a small town of around 6,000 population. Originally a mediaeval market town, there's nothing left from its early days (the cottage we live in is one of the oldest buildings - originally a forester's cottage the internal timbers date from 1580, but it was completely rebuilt around 1720). The oldest buildings date from the early eighteenth century when the town seems to have grown significantly, but the majority date from the early twentieth century when the local colliery opened, and more recent urban development. A typical collection of buildings from the 1700s A late-Victorian development, with our cottage hiding behind the tall hedge! The tall house dates from around 1720, the same as our cottage The town hall was built in 1910

I should have added, the best bit is the surrounding countryside. This riverside walk is only five minutes walk from the centre of the town: ... and you can be in the middle of Sherwood Forest within ten minutes: ... and less than ten minutes drive away are several country estates, known as The Dukeries; this is the lime tree avenue in Clumber Park:

Great idea Julio and really enjoying everyone's photos! To be honest, Mike C's 'Dukeries' pics are my idea of heaven on earth. Julio's Guadalajara has the right idea with masonry construction, built to last! I just know that Jeff's area too must have some beautiful shots along the lake and woods?

Great photos and some lovely architecture. I currently live in a village which is not very interesting building-wise although there is a Grade 1 listed church in the next village. But I am originally from London so there are loads of great buildings and bridges, you can find them on the internet quite easily, tongue firmly in cheek.

Great pictures, everyone! I'd decided to take some myself today but my bike got a puncture so I wanted to get home ASAP to fix it. It was hot enough walking home anyway. This one I've shown earlier: I cross this bridge across the Amsterdam Rhine shipping canal every day. This is a shot at dawn. I think the suspension bridge is a pretty good piece of modern architecture The wooden fencing is temporary because the bridge is in the process of being painted.

Took some more pictures on a sunny Saturday. Much better St. Janskerk The Lange Viestraat looks better like this The Oudegracht, or old canal. The canals used to be shipping routes for city merchants. The glass top boat is for sightseeing, highly recommended These wharf cellars are now restaurants Utrecht has a history dating back 900 years and lots of historic buildings on the Oudegracht, some medieval Bikes are everywhere The Hoog Catharijne shopping mall in the centre was built in 1974 but currently undergoing reconstruction and upgrades When it was built, the canal was closed and turned into a four-lane motorway. That lunacy has now been reversed This is TivoliVredenburg, our local concert venue Inside Hoog Catharijne, not a dead mall by any standard It leads to a square that is enclosed by the Central Station, another distinctive building. There's also secure covered parking for 16,500 bikes, largest in the world This is one of my favourite roads, Wilhelminapark. These buildings date back to the late 1800s, early 1900s. In the 1970s they were cheap and the University bought a whole row to house a few faculties. My dad used to work in the room with the second little white balcony. A couple of years ago these were all sold off, now you can buy two floors for 1.7 million These houses look out on a beautiful park.

Great idea Julio and thanks to everyone for sharing their photos. I will get some photos myself shortly, although as you can ride a bike from one end of the town to thew other in about 4 minutes, it shouldn't really take too long! We only have a handful of buildings

I've updated my post with some fresh pictures. Utrecht's famous Dom chuch tower is currently in scaffolds, here's a picture of a picture of what it used to look like
